Acer Aspire Intel Core Duo T2450 2.0GHz Laptop $700

    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0089806&catid=

    Acer AMD Turion 64 MK38 2.2GHz Laptop $480

Which is faster, Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz or AMD
    Turion 64 MK38 2.2GHz?

The only difference I see between the two are:

    1.
The Acer Intel Core has 40 GB more hard drive space
    2. Intel processor vs AMD processor (not sure which better)
    3. 17 inch vs 14 inch screen ( I do prefer the 17)
    4. The
Acer AMD has something called PC Card Input (not sure if I need this in the future)
    5. The
Acer Intel has 2 more USB ports (but who needs two more)
    6. Windows Vista Home Premium vs Windows Vista basic ( what is the difference?)

Other than these six differences, everything else is the same.

Are the differences worth the price differen
    ce? Why and why not?

    I-M,
Are you dead set on a brand new notebook? I have bought two used ones now and couldn't be happier. One is an HP nc6000 and one is an Compaq V4000. I have a total of $618 in them. The $18 was for a copy of XP and the driver disc. I had an issue getting the V4000 to connect to my wlan. I called HP support and they treated me like I had bought it brand new, very impressive. I'd be happy to share the link to the place I bought from. Just let me know. If I were looking just at the two you are, I'd go with the T2450.

if your willing to spend more money, buy a macbook. it runs on intel core duo 2, and it has the security of a mac. so you can run all your windows stuff you have on a better machine

    AMD vs Intel

AMD 64 Athlon XP is better for a desktop.
Intel Core2Duo is better for a laptop.

btw, Mac makes a great laptop. Check out the MacBook. It has an Intel Core2Duo in it.

If I were you, I would save up money for as long as it takes and get a MacBook. You would be surprised how much you will save on it in the long run. If you need Windows, no problem. The MacBook will run Windows but I strongly suggest using OSX because it is safer.

I was looking for old to save money, but the prices of old and new are very close here... not worth buying old

Where did you buy yours from? sounds like a good deal

The Intel Core2Duo uses less electrical power (in watts) per the measurement of speed than any modern, available computer. It also runs cooler (as in temperature) than an AMD dual core.

The AMD dual core is faster because it defeats the need for the motherboard to contain a certain computer chip in it. The CPU contains the chip in the AMD K8's. This makes it communicate faster with other devices and chips on the motherboard. Regaurdless of Ghz, the AMD K8 CPU's will operate faster, but hotter.

I chose a Dell Lattitude X300. Shopped around and it seemed to be the best buy around here. It is a re-furbished one. Runs pretty good. No probs so far except the Windows partition got a serious bug and crashed. So now its a Ubuntu only box.

    Peace, Cricketlind
