Ok, so I don;t know if anyone has seen the movie Idiocracy with Luke Wilson, but if you haven't you should. It talks about how stupid people just keep on having babies and smart people keep waiting til the right time to have kids but then end up waiting til its too late. Basically, the whole world then becomes populalted with idiots and everything is about advertisement. A sports drink company ends up replacing water everywhere but in the toilets and shopping is confined to one huge store, Costco. Anyway, I always thought this movie might be eerily foreshadowing our imminent future. But then I walked into a Walmart the other day and there was a pharmacy, an optometrist and eyewear place, a family portrait place, a bank, 2 restaurants, and a place to get money orders and cash checks. Then I realized, hey! this is probably how Costco was in the beginning. Eventually we're going to get so into the habit of having everything combined into one superstore that we will perpetuate a monopoly on ourselves because we crave convenience at a low price. I've been thinking about this alot and was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the matter, or if you've noticed the same thing
people arent being born idiots, they are being made that way by schools, media, and society as a whole. unfortunately people are choosing to be idiots, or as i would call them sheeple.
well, i don't know about dumb parents having brilliant children. they say nature vs. nurture, but if the nature is bad genetics, and if the nurture is a poor upbringing, then how could that produce brilliance?
ever think the parents are not dumb, they have just chosen to be that way because thats what main stream society expects?
well, if they have in fact chosen to be that way for the sake of "what society expects" then wouldn't that there be proof of low intelligence? If a person were really smart, "what society expects" would not be that big of a factor in decision making, let alone the way they choose to raise their children. Adaptability is a large part of intelligence, but so is being able to differentiate between what is meaningful and what isn't.
maybe u should explain a little more, because I don't really understand your answer. If a person is brainwashed, then are they choosing to be any way at all? Isn't that what brainwashing is, imposing an absence of choice?
no doubt. and brilliant people can have totally average children. the genetics that go into a child aren't PRECISELY the genetics of the parents. it's still hit r miss, like congenital diseases and such. no garauntees.
Hi, People are intelligent compared to trees. People are dumb compared to Class III civilizations. In other words: intelligence is relative. Love, bird.
Thank god people are finally taking the social commentary of Mike Judge seriously. And if my sardonicism doesn't translate online well.
heheheh. though i do occaisionally get "who made who" stuck in my head. i love that song. The video game says "Play me" Face it on a level but it takes you every time on a one on one Feeling running down your spine Nothing gonna save your one last dime cause it owns you Through and through The databank knows my number Says I gotta pay cause I made the grade last year Feel it when I turn the screw Kicks you round the world, there ain't a thing that it can't do Do to you CHORUS: Who made who, who made you? Who made who, ain't nobody told you? Who made who, who made you? If you made them and they made you Who picked up the bill, and who made who? (or who picked up theglue,...)(?) Who made who, who turned the screw? Satellites send me picture Get it in the eye, take it to the world (take it to the wire) Spinning like a dynamo Feel it going round and round Running out of chips, you got no line in an 8-bit town So don't look down, no CHORUS Ain't nobody told you, who made who?
