well i just wanted some opinions on a band.

i am a HUGE phishhead, and i love the grateful dead just as much.
and someone recently recommended me the band widespread panic and i was gunna check em out.

i think they kinda filled a spot between the dead days and phish?
    idk if im right.

well i wanted to know if theyre any good?
and if so any songs you recommend?

I have heard one or two good songs from WSP, but most of their songs sound all country-like, and not so jam-like. Granted I haven't listened to anywhere close to all of their songs, just my opinion based on what I've listened to. I could do with or without Widespread.

On another note, a lot of people on here will recommend them, quote me on that ;)

i love widespread panic, they have gained a pretty big following but i don't think they are anywhere close to the dead or phish. Defiantely check them out, with String Cheese gone, they are up there amongst the top bands in the jam world.

yahoo for next weekend, a little wsp up in loveland. They put on a fun show and know how to get down; but still overhyped by spreadheads. I'd agree they probably have the largest following w/ no cheese. You want some one who jams some good tunes your best bet is Yonder

They do a good show because they're always having fun. Sometimes I feel like these bands aren't enjoying themselves on stage...SCI for the last couple of years particularly...but when I saw yonder over labor day weekend, it was their first show headlining redrocks, those boys were having a ball. They reminded me of kids locked inside a candy shop.

i know your a huge cheese fan, ever seen HTHS? I love Billy, this band of his sounds like they'd do a pretty intimate show.

I'm more of a kang fan than billy, but I've seen HTHS they are fun. Obviously they play a lot of cheese tunes. I love the more acoustic less tranceonica (or whatever you want to call it) sound, than SCI was producing lately.

yeah i'm not a fan of the psychedelic trance, which unfortunately was most of what i got to see performed as i only saw their later shows. String cheese blows my mind. Yeah Kang's great, The violin adds so much..they are all such great musicians. Can't help but wish they'd go back to the way they first were.

So many rumors of people replacing Billy, which i don't see happening. Keller williams as the SCI guitarist? doubt it.

not sure how to sum up how much i love string cheese in words >.<

there are no words that describe it in a gouda way.

I love me some keller, don't get me wrong. When he came out hooping during best feeling in the midst of the last show, it was breahtaking. I do like the KWI, but as a permanent touring show i couldn't handle it.

I think a couple of years apart doing their own thing might be enough to recharge their batteries, only time will tell. Until then I'll be waiting for those good times around the bend

I saw Widespread Panic this year at Bonnaroo. Pretty good actually, I was surprised. Kind of a jam band, but they seemed put together well. I liked Manu Chao better, check him out. He's ill witted.

I personally am not a phil and friends fan. I'll usually see them when they pass through town, but phil just doesn't do it for me like bobby does. I never miss a ratdog show.

modest mouse dfinitely aint a jamband. There's plenty of non jambands with dedicated followings

I find that Phil Lesh and friends are much more creative then bob. I was extremely dissapointed by the most recent keller/bob concert i went too.

Why the hell would you follow a band the doesn't jam? You would be seeing the same shows over and over and over. Its pointless.
