I have it and I love it. Just great. Sometimes I get confused what he is using at the time(Datura, mushrooms, or whatsthatthirdone...) but all in all it is a great book.

Yeah all of Castaneda's books are available in English. I loved The Teachings of Don Juan for many years. Made me realize what an illusion reality is, even though I now think it is partially fake. I only believe that his first two books contain hints of what really happened, the rest are fiction. Even so, it is a beautiful concoction of various philosophies and religious beliefs.

There is a salon.com article that was pretty damning of Castaneda ("the dark legacy of carlos castaneda"), which I recommend people read, but only after giving his books a chance.

Very touching books to me, there are about three I didn't read yet. It truly gave me focus to read these books and I will re-read them again to gain what I have lost from no sense of things.

i wonder if his critics are mainly made up of anthropologists or book critics...most likely people who cannot get past the reality that has been built for them. you would think an anthropologist who has been immersed into a different culture him/herself would be able to see the possibility of truth to his writings.

i can't say much as to whether i believe his writing are fiction or non., as i have only read the teachings of don juan, but i do know someone who believes in his words and i have learned a lot from that person. i've also seen similarities in symbolism and ideas (that are simply on different paths) from other writers like mark amaru pinkham, and david icke. i want to read all of his books and i would very much like to find my own path.

This book is similar to say the book by OSHO entitled Buddha, Zen, Tao, Tantra, same ideas different sides of the world, almost amazing to think that people still fight over who's God is more real. Idiotic really, to not realize that we are all a part of one God, and to try and explain God in a human word is preposterous. To claim God as your own is to not see that we are all ONE.

ive completley started taking these books serious. im starting to convince my friend not to sell anyone Lucy that doesnt deserve her or really know why they want her. Just like don Juan asks carlos why he wants to learn about mescalito and don juan wont let him learn until he comes up with a good heart felt reason.

I haven't read that one. But I did read some of "A Separate Reality", which I believe is the sequel? It's pretty good. I like it so far.

ahh the daodejing. at first i carried it around with me and when ever something torubled me id pull it out and flip to a random one, read it and calm down. i dropped two doses one days and wandered to a spot by a near by river. began reading my tao and did not like how i felt. i felt blank and egoless which is essentially what the tao is. i didnt like it the feeling what so ever. i have not picked up my tao since then.

I read "A Separate Reality." It was an alright read, but I think it is embellished--to say the very least. It didn't really strike a chord in me and I found too much of it to be fluffy hocus pocus mysticism. That's not meant to be a dig on those who enjoyed the book, I was just disappointed.

The Tao te Ching is great though. Like any "sacred" text it is far from perfect, but there is much wisdom to be found within its pages IMO.
