Salvia on ABC Nightline

there will be a story about Salvia on ABC Nightline tonight.

 

I've seen stories popping up all around the news. They are usually on the side of making it look bad. The message of the last one I saw was "Kids can buy this at stores easily. A boy killed himself because salvia taught him the meaning of life was "nothing". The Canadian government hasn't done anything about this stong hallucinogen yet, and they refuse to until there are actual health risks discovered....

I agree with the "kids shouldn't do this", but not with the illegalization...

 

I learned that too but I didn't kill myself lol, they need to realize that this kid had mental problems before he even tried salvia. The emo is like the fucking posterboy for salvia prohibition now.....You can thank the dumbass people who post their stupid trip videos on youtube for all the unwanted attention.

And I really hope that Salvia doesn't get banned. The legislators in Maine rejected a proposal to make it illegal, opting instead to restrict its sale only to those over the age of 18. That is a perfectly reasonable restriction, IMO.

 

I agree Dronelore. That is a good way to keep it out of the hands of people that shouldn't use it while not restricting it from everyone.

 

I personally don't like the stuff, but I don't think that it is the government's place to restrict its use. There are no known health hazards, and it's not something that people are going to do while driving. It's not exactly a party drug, either. It's somewhat of a personal, private thing. It seems on par with the government banning masturbation. But I agree, over 18.

I'm only 16 and I use Salvia but I can see why you guys think it should be restricted. I feel that lots of people, in particular teenagers tend to due ridiculously stupid things and stupidity and one of the few legal hallucinegens left in the United States doesn't mix well. I know I'm guility of quite a few things that looking back were really dumb but I have always been responsible with Salvia and intend to continue to use it privately, with a sitter whenever possible, and with proper safety precautions taken.

It will probably become illegal for at least minors in many areas soon. But I don't see how being under 18 constitutes irresponsible use of the substance or any substance for that matter. I agree that the risks in that bage group are higher but that is still a rather large generalization.

Sorry, what I just said is probably poorly written and confusing. My head isn't clear right now but hopefully you'll get what I'm trying say and I don't sound like a babbling idiot . Peace

 

I saw the Nightline story. some sensationalistic negative coverage as expected, but they did try to show both sides of the story. two people talked about the positive benefits of personal use and promising medical research.

 

I just finished watching the nightline thing right now. They actually had a doctor on there talking about the potential benefits of it. The only thing they had against it was a bunch of fags that posted videos of themselvs on youtube. Way to go to hasten making salvia illegal. Fucken people are stupid.

I had just watched the out of control video and it worried me, I hope they do not make salvia illegal. Salvia DOES make me less depressed, it is just crazy that a kid would kill himself on it. Salvia makes life better.

 

I like how all the experta they interviewed said it shouldn't be illegal, at least to adults and even the mother of the kid that committed suicide said just keep it out of the hands of kids.

 

the mother is on a crusade to outlaw salvia, she's probably in denial that other factors caused his suicide. no he wasn't on salvia at the time at the time of his suicide, the journal notes they quoted were written 4 months earlier. He was a problem drinker, used other drugs, was a troubled teenager, and from divorced parents who also drank. all of these facts are squelched by people on a crusade. also the medical examiner falsified the death certificate because of political pressure she listed slavia as the cause of death.

 

Ok, I am going to play devils advocate for a minute.

Anyways, Salvia will be made illegal, it is only a matter of time.
Just like pot, shrooms, peyote, LSD, and other "safe" drug.
It is getting more and more known as time goes on and eventually as it gets realy popular it will be scheduled. So enjoy it now while it is legal because once it is illegal it will tougher then hell to get. I don't even see it realy being one of those things you will easily be able to get through dealers since there are so many other illegal drugs that people would rather have if they had to buy stuff illegally.

Second, no drug is safe or good for you mentally or physically.
99.9% of people who claim it helps them mentally are full of shit, misguided, or clouded from the use of drugs in believing that it helps them. I am sure a lot of will chime in here and disagree and bla bla bla but realistically, we all do shit because we like to get fucked up and it is fun. If you realy believe that you need it for mental clarity or whatever, then you have larger issues and maybe you should stop using any drug and depending on them to get you through life.

Next, don't blame youtube for getting the drug sceduled. If anything, this site along with any other site that explains it and tells you how to get fucked up off it is just as at fault. I mean most of us looked it up on the internet or heard about it on the from somebody else that did and thats why we started smoking it. Also, don't blame reports like the one on nightline. There are several reasons it will get sceduled and the number one is being the kids that get a hold of it. That is all you under 18 year olds that smoke it. Why? Because you smoke it in your parents house, you smoke it with your friends or tell them about it and they smoke it in their parents house, some of you guys get caught, your parents get upset, find out it is legal, and push to illegalize it and guess what? The lawmakers listen to them because they vote and you don't. Most drugs have been illegalized and sceduled just for this reason. They get in the hands of kids and parents get mad expecting lawmakers to raise their kids for them by changing laws.

As far as the kid that killed himself because of it.
Get real.
I mean I would say if he was on top of a building smoking it, stood up, lost his balance and fell, then salvia was the cause of his death. However, that is not what happened. Instead there were deaper issues and instead of stopping to find out what they were, his parents sent him in for drug tests. I imagine like most parents they were to wrapped up in their lives to realy stop and spend time with their kid. Being divorced probably did not help either. They were probably to wrapped up with making each others life miserable that they couldn't see the toll they were putting on their sons life. If anything, salvia might of enhanced the feelings of depression that their son had, but it did not put them there. Of course when any tragedy happens, people need to find something to blame and it is never themselves. And who knows, maybe their parents did everything life, but sometimes you just can't fix things.

As far as keeping it legal.
Hell yeah I believe it should stay legal.
I believe that about anything that grows naturally and that has nothing to do with it being good, bad, harmless or harmful to you.
It is plain and simply on a spiritual side and I don't mean the the spiritual effects people claim the herbs have. It is simply this that if your god or supreme being/diety or whatever you may or may not believe in put it on this earth, then he/she intended for us to have it. Who are we as mere mortals to take take away from somebody what a god gave them.



Drugs are should be a personal choice.
Although it is one I believe should only be made by adults.
And if you think you can't put an age on what an adult is, I will agree and say that you are absulutely right. Adulthood happens when you grow up, support yourself, live on your own, stay out of debt, and are able to depend on nobody but yourself. For some that is 18 and others it might be 40+.


Maybe I pissed some of you off with some of the things I said but it is reality and sometimes reality is tough pill to swallow.

 

Its sad that it is idiots who have no idea what salvia is or does that will make the decision for everyone.

Because as an individual i know for a fact that salvia made life in general more interesting, and my overall mood is noticably better so i don't care if you do not believe me because i know for myself and thats all that matters.

You say it made your mood better.
Maybe so and I can see that.
However, that being the case, you had larger issues.
Also, maybe there are other healthy ways to make your mood better.
Such as eating better, hitting the gym, joining some sort of special interest group, or maybe simply taking a dump. I don't know, but usually people have a poor mood because they do not feel good about themselves. Do something that improves your self esteem instead of hiding your problems behind a drug.

I do believe you, but you do nothing but support what I say.
Which is the answers to your problems are not in any drug and if you are turning to a drug to give you solutions then there problem and one of those problems will be a dependency.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to depend on a chemical to give me lifes answers.
