Hi, we are a young family (Dad-32, Mum(me)-30, kids 1 & 3) wanting to move to Oz. We work long hours in stressful jobs, little time with kids. Fed up with Grime, Crime and busy lifestyle in Uk, want a better life.
It's a big step, abit scary but I think worth it.

What do you think? Are you in Oz! Where abouts? Whats it like? Where would you go? Any advice for us? All good and bad comments welcome.

    Thank you.

i live down the bottom of oz, in adelaide. as far as oz goes id say its the same as everywhere else we got our good places and our bad places. while our crime rate is no were near americas and we have basically zero gun crime accept for the lebanese in sydney if you go to a bad area MAYBE someone will steal your shit or try to fight you. ive grown up here and been all over oz and id say if you got a young family and have the cash to make the move and get a nice house it will be a great place to raise your kids and probably one of the safest places you'll find by comparison. it all depends on what your looking for as well, if your city kinda people go to melbourne, for a good beach bondi in sydney or the gold coast up in queensland. if you want a nice big backyard in the country we have lots of nice places out by wineyards and alot of nice suburbs too in adelaide. hope this helps.

can i give you a word of advice

don't propagate the problems of britain in australia

stay away from the ethnic areas especially the middle eastern areas (sorry not politically correct i know but it may save your life) when i moved to australia a backpacker walking back home from work was set upon by a group of lebanese who stabbed him about 60 times. we can moralise about reality about how everyone should love each other but you will find that australia is getting the same problems as britain mainly via importation. stay away from sydney and you should be ok.

a brutal assessment but reality i'm afraid

wrong wrong wrong the video is on youtube you can watch it, yes he was attacked and that video feeds my hate for the lebanese these days but he wasnt stabbed at all. he recieved a broken arm and extensive bruises im pretty sure. he survived and if he was stabbed 60 times i doubt he would. ill be happy to provide you with a link if you have any further debate

yes stay away from sydney and melbourne is your looking for somewhere away from busy lifestyle. adelaide has some beautiful pieces of land in the barossa valley. queensland is a great place, might be a little hot for you coming from the UK tho. this guy is trying to make it sound like you can get killed just walking down the street here, which just doesnt happen. yes we still have youth street gangs, yes there is still crime, and the occasional stabbing or shooting between shady people but where is there not?? we have an almost non existent murder rate in australia compared to other countrys. and the only reason the back packer was attack was because there was a race war going on at the time in sydney between the local lebanese and the local aussies which escalated into 5000 drunken australians chasing the lebanese off and the police having to protect and escort them off the beach hence why they staged these pathetic attacks on whoever they deemed to be australian at the time.

i'm not sure what you're talking about, i'm talking about an event years ago.
at any rate they aren't my problem because i moved i will give respect to anyone who gives me respect as a fellow human being within reason. the fracas down at cronulla was a direct result of aggression from the lebanese community towards other members of the australian community. i always find it amusing to find out most of the most outspoken apologists for antisocial behaviour rarely live in the areas where antisocial people congregate.

    Hi Michelle,

I'd recommend Springwood in the Blue Mountains
I moved here from Sydney a year ago
Very friendly, nice town...and only an hour away from Sydney
What's more...they treat us 'hippie' types with respect here
(it's actually the only place in Oz I would choose to live now)
For us, it's either here...or move to Canada

    hope this was helpful

prolly find more info on the net about the Blue Mountains

    peace, Gan
