As a general rule of thumb, wouldn't you guys agree that when the white pistils all turn red the buds have stopped growing? This seems to have been my experience, but I have never had access to a microscope to see the color of the trichs at the time. If anybody knows for sure post it.

Its a decent indication, however a microscope is under $20 at Radioshack, wal mart etc...

Well it is an indication that the plant is starting to die and the trichomes may have begun to over ripen leading to a less potent herb.

If ALL the pistils are dying them yeah you should harvest I would think. Got any pictures? Whats the strain? How long has it been flowering?

Unknown sativa strains, pretty potent, flowering since august 1st, some of my pistils are still whiteish and most are turning that real nice orange before dead pistol red. I'm gonna harvest sometime within the week I'm going to check the trics tomorrow in my biology lab ;-o Almost all the fan leaves are dead BTW should I just go ahead and harvest them tomorrow? lol
My digital camera broke as I took the picture of the first plant, leaving me with a broken digital camera with a picture of a pot plant as its only internal memory... I don't think I can get it fixed like that :-(
