Hey all, It's been a while since I have posted anything here and alot has changed in my life but one of the biggest is that I have gone vegetarian. I feel great since I have and actually started to lose weight easier than any diet that I have tried in the past. The problem is that my wife and family still eat meat, my wife is understanding of my choice, but the men in her family seem to get a kick out of asking my things like "are you a real man" (they are all hunters ) and other things neanderthals like these people only understand. Have any of you out there had any issues like this and how did you deal with them. thanks in advance for any input
nice to see you again, brother. pull those knuckle draggers aside and look 'em in the eye, and say, "Vegetarians taste better." Then wink.
Aww man that sucks. What you eat does not determine your masculinity. Just forget these dudes. I mean thats like how that dude said tofu makes people gay... ignore that shit. I think hunters are pretty damn lame and stupid but thats just me.
I fully agree with you on your views about hunters, but thats the first I heard about tofu turning you gay
I think dealing with teasing when you first become a vegetarian is pretty common, especially for men. But is the teasing actually cruel or just in fun? Where I work it is pretty much a bonding past time to tease people, but all in fun and not trying to be cruel. So when I changed my diet I had to deal with that, but now after about two years my diet isn't really anything big and it is hardly brought up. Either way, the best way to deal with it is to be confident in your choice and don't let them think that their teasing bothers you. Atleast you can feel good that your diet is not clogging up your ... manhood ... with saturated fat. I have actually had good experiences with hunters. I even had one come up to me and tell me he understood my choice with all the crap that they pump into the meat at the supermarket. Those that I have known have usually been pretty enviromentally aware at the very least. Any hunter that does not understand that without a healthy enviroment they won't have much to hunt is not a very good hunter.
Ive been a Veggie all my life....but when I first tell people, they usually get boered of the 'how can live with out meat?!' or 'Dont you ever want a fat peice of stake?' after about two weeks. I just brush them off as narrow minded and when they say something really stupid such as 'Why dont you go and eat some grass' I just come back with a comment that makes them feel like a tit..... good times.
Ask 'em if they're man enough to have some soy milk in their coffee. I get endless shit about being Vegan from some friends... and I'm not preachy about it. It's just like... what is their fascination...
oh man i know exactly what you're saying... my girlfriend's family are all hunters... her dad hates me. i get mocked all the time but whatever... you aren't alone. be encouraged by the people here.
Lol... yes, that would make you strong like Popeye. And: are you men enough to eat all your veggies from the plate, or are you going to act like a crybaby?
the best way to combat it from people you don't care about is to just laugh your ass off over the top style and tel them how funny it is or ask them how they came up with a joke so funny... they usually just get embarassed and feel like an idiot. that or just act like one... hahaha as for the people you do care about, just tell them how you feel straight up. if they don't like it, tell them you don't tell them how to live their lives, they shouldn't tell you how to live yours.
