Another thread on this site deals with How to get to Heaven when you die". That topic generated some interesting discussion, but oddly it was "closed" when it seemed to be getting warmed up. Then it appeared again, without any of the earlier posts, and once again began generating discussion when it was again "closed". I don't know what that was all about, but I thought I might reopen the subject with a slightly different twist. Is Heaven a place you "get to" only when you die, or is it a condition some people can experience while you're here. In the "Gnostic" Gospel of Thomas (not accepted by most Christians, Jesus is said to have said that the Kingdom of Heaven is spread out everwhere before us, and we do not see it. Could it be that an enlightened mind could find heaven on earth? And if so, how?And what is Heaven?
lol. I just read your post after already deciding to reply. Well I read part of it first. I was going to say that you can only get there if you get there on earth. I believe it can last through death, but life is your only chance to get there. You may be able to visit heaven if you don't get there in life but you won't stay. I have not reached heaven. I believe I will in this life though.
This would be similar to the concept that we have 3 bodies, the physical, astral, and causal bodies. Each has it's own plane of reality, obviously being the physical, astral, and mental (causal) planes. Beyond that there is the buddhic (intelligance) plane, and the nirvanic (enlightenment) plane. After death, the soul linger's around through certain level's of ascension in the heavenly sphere's, the different lokas. These planes however, are not just somewhere beyond the atmosphere, or beyond the universe. They are within and without us, they are right in front of our eyes, inside our bodies, in our minds, hearts, and our soul is there and here at the same time. The bridge between the gap, what link's us to these, is the sound Aum, the Holy Spirit, the light of life energy from God behind the ether as well as the other 4 basic elements of nature. -
Heaven lies within. It doesn't exist in some distant afterlife. It is right here in front of us, but most are too blind to see it. Peace and love
I agree hippie_chick, but I also believe that heaven does exist in an afterlife. I believe that we ascend cetrain level's of the heavenly planes after the physical body stops pumping, but that we receive only so much purification and so much euphoric bliss before we are then stamped with our karmic codes and born again into a new body. But when we attain liberation entirely from generating any more karma, then we ascend to the highest level of heaven, realizing God in moksha and we no longer incarnate. Just my opinion!
Probably because it has something to do with Skip's "New Rules!". I suppose that as long as this thread remains a "discussion" and not a {Proselitizing, Witnessing, Bible Quote(ing)} thread, it will most likely stay open ... according to the "New Rules!" that is ... HTML:
There you go again! Are you trying to get this thread shut down too? (Skips Rules, you know). I personally have no objection to your post. It provides a good target. I wonder which is more important to you: getting to Heaven or staying out of Hell? If there were no Hell, would you care about God, Jesus, or Heaven? I can't judge you, Brother, but the way you present the truths of our faith isn't likely to be effective on this forum. Fear-based proselytizing and dogmatic assertions turn many people off. The rules are clear: no quoting Scripture, no proselytizing. Do you just not get it? Why don't you move your act over to Sanctuary, where you can preach to the choir?
heaven could be a real place that the good christian souls go after they die, but i doubt it. it seems more likely that heaven exists within the individual. too many of the great teachers have affirmed that heaven exists in our own minds and is accessibly by anyone who wishes to walk the path. if there's a reward after life for 'doing good', then that's just a bonus.
I don't know why people are so obsessed with finding heaven when hardly anyone even knows what the Earth is all about. I'm not saying I do, but I'm at least not going to dismiss it all as an illusion before I'm totally sure... Whatever happens when we die, you'll know what that's all about when you die, but there's really no point in rushing to get there before that happens is there? There are plenty of things in the world that are worth experiencing, and it makes absolutely no sense to try to escape them before you've even figured them out.
Nobody is escaping the world heywood, they are simply contemplating what else there is besides the world. Not everyone chooses to pass their time as you see fit, and your judgement that it makes no sense to wonder at the heavens is pretty unfair
I'm not saying they should pass their time in any way, just that they shouldn't miss out on a lot of really good stuff because they're too busy denying that it's important.
What happens in the afterlife if connected to what happens in the now life. We must have our lives in order to live a life that would lead to the highest degree of glory in the afterlife. So yes I believe that we must first strive to make Heaven on Earth (not meaning to break into a Belinda Carlile--I think that's her name--song) and we do that by our actions and reactions. But I also believe that to achieve Heaven on Earth we must understand what Heaven is for us. For many Christians Heaven is living eternally as spirits in a pretty place along with God's spirit, and to achieve this all you have to do is accept Christ as your Savior. For people like this Heaven on Earth will be going to church on Sundays and declaring their conversion story. For me Heaven is so much more than that and to create Heaven on Earth requires a lot of work on my part to be a good wife, mother, daughter, sister, neighbor, etc.
This is interesting. Samwise posted this same material on a different thread entitled "How to get to Heaven When you die". That thread was shut down for violating "Skip's rules", then Samwise opened it up again. And it ws shut down again. Then I opened up this thread. After Darrell explained why the other thread was shut down, sure enough, Samwise appeared again with the same material. I warned him about it, because I didn't want this thread to be shut down, and it was removed. So here we go again. What gives?
Spamwise goes from board to board posting this same cut and paste...he recently showed up on an automotive board I hang out on, and was quickly banned. He needs to be banned here, permanently, as he has repeatedly violated the rules.
I think you're delusional, and incapable of objectively evaluating what separates truth from fiction. That's why you post the same cut-and-paste on every board you visit. Yes, you're wasting your time. It would be better spent in intensive psychotherapy, then some courses in critical thinking and creative writing. Nothing wrong with being a Christian...just be able to back up your claims with your own independent reasoning.
