hey has anyone seen this movie? it is a bit old. 1982. has a high degree of paranoia and the suspense is awesome, especially during the blood test, palmer, lol. it has kurt russell, keith david, wilford brimley. all guys in the film to make it more intense and the sense of paranoia. i recommend it.
Carpenter's The Thing is an extraordinary film. I love the aureola he gets around fire at night with the lense he used, and those gorgeous, wintery blues and whites. Excellent job by that ensemble cast. A Wilford Brimley. Wow. All those analog effects. There's just nothing like that these days. I was too young to see this when it came out, and I follow movies pretty closely... what they achieved with that film will always stand on its own as brilliant. That isolated, frozen setting is just perfect for the mood of the film. Ennio Morricone's music... what a movie.
Definatly agree with everything youve said about this movie, its just nearly perfect. I do have a small thing against hand drawn backgrounds, but what else could they have done? The style of horror in this movie was very similair to that of Alien, except it one upped it adding that paranoia. I'm very happy they made it an all male cast, that actually really helped it.
Great. Flippin. Movie. Top 5'er for sure. I really liked Prince of Darkness and in the Mouth of Madness as well, but the Thing was my personal favorite out of his "doomsday trilogy" or whatever. I can't believe they're going to remake it. Well, no, I can believe it. I just shutter to think what they'll do to it after that pile of shit that they put out for the Fog remake. The original wasn't THAT great, but it was a decent ghost story to me. The remake was total puke.
The Thing is a great movie and there's absolutely NO reason for a remake! Those fuckin money hungry hollywood execs have no balls to try something new these days....... remakes I'm sick of remakes... I know that John Carpenter's The Thing is a remake, but to me it's more like a sequel to the original The Thing from Another World (1951).
I thought it was excellent as well. Fun fact: This is the only movie you will ever see Wilford Brimley in without his characteristic moustache.
Have to agree with all thats been said. Seen it several times and its still brilliant. The game aint to bad either.
I love that movie!!! It's definitely John Carpenter's best. Wilford Brimley is hilarious... he reminds me of the dude on the Quaker Oats box, lol.
I love The Thing its probably the only Kurt Russell movie I like and that South Park scene about it was so damn funny.
I'm not a big fan of horror movies but love this one, although I feel sorry for the Norwegians and the lovely dog.
Don't you mean the sweds I like the technique used by John Carpenter (in the tradition of John Ford and Howard Hawks) by having everyone confuse norwegians for sweds Hotwater
It's immense! I love this version, aswell as the original from the 50s or so, that one was called The Thing From Another Planet
This movie is one of my all-time favorites. I consider it a classic and feel that it is very underrated.
