i really like his poetry and lyrics alot, but i have to be in the right mood or he can really bring me down.
I've been into L. Cohen for some time now. I love his earlier stuff especially, "Suzanne", "Sisters of Mercy", etc. Damn the man is awesome. I often hear his music described as depressing...personally I find it uplifting.
I LOVE 'Waiting For The Miracle'. My current fave is 'Famous Blue Raincoat' (Such an unusual sentiment.) And 'Alexandra Leaving (from '10 new Songs'.
yes, they are very original, however i always felt that 'waiting for the miracle' was his most authentic. you might enjoy the 70's film 'mccabe and mrs. miller'...it's an excellent film and the sound track made good use of cohen's music.
I've heard of that film! I'll have to find it. Have you read either of hs novels. I've only read 'The Favourite Game'. Apparantly they made a film out of it.
Me too. I love him, always have, when i was a tot I wouldn't go to sleep unless i had the best of tape on http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/516M7H3KHDL._SS500_.jpg I still have the tape today and it still works
Leonard Cohen is a pimp. He's the only person who's on par with Dylan when it comes to songwriting. Though his voice is definitly an aquired taste though. But damn he makes good lyrics and the way his songs are just make them so moving, from the early days in his very sparse songs like Famous Blue Raincoat and the Partisian and Who by Fire, to the driving and hypnotic ones like Democracy and Waiting for the Miracle and Closing Time. For anyone who hasn't listened to him let me recommend: -Chelsea Hotel #2 -Famous Blue Raincoat -Who by Fire -Gypsy Wife -Diamonds in the Mine -Waiting for the Miracle -Democracy -The Partisian -Hallejuaha -Suzanne -Closing Time -In my secret life
I've been a Cohen fan for many years. I love his verse and bottomless voice. Love and light, Monk P.S. if I can add to the above list check out "Everybody Knows", "I'm Your Man", and "Tower of Song".
Leonard Cohen has made some heavy stuff. From his early music all the way up to the 90s (I haven't heard any of his recent stuff). I was just listening to Avalanche earlier today, and that was pretty damn deep.
Just finished reading "Beautiful Losers" Cohen is a genuin poetic genius. He's been a huge influence on my own work over the years. ~Amadeo www.myspace.com/thevagabondtroubadour
I am a long time Cohen fan as well. I recall being given a compilation of his poetry by a close friend back in 1992. I was just out of high school then. This book became my bible, if you will, and I still look to it for guidance and inspiration. Eventually, I discovered his music. He has produced a truly incomparable body of work. I remember listening to his Greatest Hits my first time in Kathmandu in 1996, having picked it up from one of the little music shops in Thamel. There was a cozy cafe called Sonam's where I would sit for hours sipping chai and I became very close with the owners, a young Tibetan couple. They would let me play the cassette on their stereo and just watch the world go by.
