I didn't see athread on him. Is he out of popularity now? Reading his stories to children is such a guilty self-pleasure for me...
dude, i just finished my last day of highschool TODAY and i can still remember those stories from kindergarden and early elementary school. i do not kno, or care about shel's popularity, those are some kickass stories either way!
I found The Giving Tree to be a rather stomach turning story of co-dependency unsuitable for small children. However the Big O stories are great! They send a much better message IMO. Some of his poems are good fun too!
I LOVE Shel Silverstein. The Giving Tree still makes me cry, and The Missing Piece and The Missing Piece Meets the Big O are wonderful. Enjoy them
Shel Silverstien is awesome. My granfather and Iwould sit there and read his poems together for hours. I miss those days...
i enjoy reading these to my son because he loves the pctures while i hope he gains an appreciation for the wonderful sound of the words...
I love Shel Silverstein. My first grade teacher Mr. Meyer read all of his books to us. I honestly think that had something to do with my creative writing abilities.
Where the Sidewalk Ends was my favorite book in grade school, Shel was such an interesting guy I wish I could of met him. His drawing's are charming.
He is awesome! When I was in second grade, my teacher would spend the last 10 minutes of the day reading to us from these books. I swear, that is by far my favorite memory of school as a child. Shel Silverstein made everything better! I have the books now, and I've already started reading them to my not quite 2 year old daughter, hehe!!
Nobody loves me, Nobody cares, Nobody picks me peaches and pears. Nobody offers me candy and Cokes, Nobody listens and laughs at me jokes. Nobody helps when I get in a fight, Nobody does all my homework at night. Nobody misses me, Nobody cries, Nobody thinks I'm a wonderful guy. So if you ask me who's my best friend, in a whiz, I'll stand up and tell you that Nobody is. But yesterday night I got quite a scare, I woke up and Nobody just wasn't there. I called out and reached out for Nobody's hand, In the darkness where Nobody usually stands. Then I poked through the house, in each cranny and nook, But I found somebody each place that I looked. I searched till I'm tired, and now with the dawn, There's no doubt about it- Nobody's gone! -Shel Silverstein
