Hi! Next week i will be holding a speak about the 60's and 70's, their beliefs and what they struggled to and how its looking today. How has their struggle left for us? I would really like to hear some ideas on how i should tell this and if anyone is and "expert" in this area?
Im no expert but I will say talk about how hippies were a gov term then and a lot of ppl wish they were there then but things are diff now and change for the world evolves. i am not a hippy and dont wanna be. there arre a lot of ppl stuck in 1969 yet they dont realize how the love acceptance and understanding has stayed the same but it has a new face
I watched the show Hippies on the History Channel and they talked about how Hippies revolutionized technology and they are to thank for most of the technological advances today. I can't remember exactly what they said but I'm sure you could find a piece about it on the History Channel's website www.history.com
i hate the word hippy its not a nice word just love and not wanna be in 1969 im not talking about either of you but thats how i feel
I don't mind the word. The show was actually called Hippies, though. I get called a hippie, I find it a compliment. If you think about the structure of the word, I think it is a strange word. I HATE tree hugger, though. My little brother tells me I'm a tree hugger.
I dont hate hippies. I hate how people wanna be a "hippy" when it was a derogatory term really I stand for the ideals though and the new generation I think has to create a new path. It's a new world.
"Hippy" was a term invented by the media, in fact Herb Cain a San Franciso collumist (sp?) claimed credit for it's invention. The first time I became aware of it was when the police in San Antonio Texas raided our college party house (Evergreen House) and arrested 30 or so folks for 'vagrancy' in a private household. The headlines in the local rag read "Hippies Discovered in South Texas". from the reaction of the local gestapo I have to believe they indeed meant the label derogatorily! *LOL* Shortly thereafter I left for the Haight to find out what all the excitement was about.
