Does anyone remember The Joy of Painting on PBS with Bob Ross, the Vietnam Vet who turned to painting to escape the memory and horrors of war. I used to love watching that show as a kid and even tried it myself (starting first of course, with the magic white) Hotwater
I loved that show Bob Ross is my freaking hero I started painting because of him I would get so freaking stoned and watch his show and paint when I was younger. It was so relaxing and I didnt have to think ya know. I was thinking of getting back into it just the other day Rock on I <3 the joy of painting!!
That guy had a really relaxing voice. He had a hippie kind of spirit too. He didn't last too long after his wife died, unfortunately. .
The show is still on TV sometime! I saw it for the first time since I was a little kid just last month
i love that show - his voice always relaxes me and i could sit for hours listening about happy little trees. and yes, it is still on tv sometimes. here in britain i used to watch it on one of the Discovery channels, but as i don't get that channel anymore - no more bob ross for me!
Both Ross (the joy of painting) and William Alexander (the magic of oil painting) were true pioneers of the wet on wet technique You couldn't help but love Alexander's Prussian accent Hotwater
Oddly enough he died from lymphoma, which in the case of most vietnam vets was attributed to exposure to agent orange. But according to his military records (wiki) he spent most of his military career keeping medical records But he was great though H
I remember watching him paint from the mid 80's to the last show. "put a happy little tree over here and give the guy a little friend"

my local pbs is so cheep the're STILL re-running it, instead of buying the new and current dr who! don't get me wrong. i do love it. but it isn't any longer something i'd turn the box on just for. i've probably seen it so many times i probably know what he's going to say next in my sleep. there's so much about it that i love. i just wish he was still alive, making new ones, and putting modern narrow gauge trains in them somewhere. winding between his "little trees that live over there". =^^= .../\...
Conversely I haven’t seen it in years, but then again anything would be better than watching The Granite State Challenge H
Well he did occasionally mention his experience in Nam; can you say Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Just kidding, he seemed alright to me H
oh god i freaking love that show. I catch it everytime it's on. Unfortunately i have no access to pot but hey, just listening to his voice is calming enough and watching him create these serene scenes. hes so positive and inspirational. i dont even paint. my mother remembers him from when she was my age and shes the painter haha.
Yeah, happy trees... They could've called that show paint therapy... There was no way to watch it and be angry, it was so relaxing. The other guy used to crack me up the way he said white... He wasn't as chilled out though. I miss that show. I don't have cable so I can't catch it if they run it on PBS here.
