I was suspended for sitting on the stage in my lunch room with an anti military recruitment sign while the army folks were out and about last year. This morning, my educational facilitys new Christian club gathered around the flag pole before school and prayed, while playing religious music on a loud speaker. ... ._. Well now.
damn straight you protested! i would do the same in my army jacket!! and the praying was because today is national prayer day, they did that at my school.(i joined in, so i don't mind it. but no loud speakers- just a guitarist with an acoustic guitar). very nice, i must say.
Lol xD I dont have any problem with them praying, but the fact that people are allowed to do that but not protest seems very odd to me. Everyone should be allowed to express themselves, or no one at all o.o You know?
The praying people probably had permission from the school to have their event... And most schools probably don't let you protest or put up signs or anything without their permission... lol, I should know - in ninth grade I put up signs protesting the Iraq war, and I was told that I wasn't allowed to do that without permission. Sucky school administrations. .
i still would!-at my school, the teachers say...pretty colorful things about bush and the war themselves! it's SO cool.
permission, shmermission.....free speech is a right, and you should be able to express yourself without permission!! (in my opinion anyway) good on you for following your convictions
Nowadays free speech is more of an idealistic idea and for the "free speech zones" in the back corners of national parks.
i just can't believe he's 14... i was SUCH a dork at that age... GOOD FOR YOU MAN! KEEP UP THE CREEEPY SIGs!!
yea. Although I wouldn't have prayed I would be ok with the others doing it, but it's stupid that one person can speak their mind just becuae of a stupid holiday and another can't. Good for you
Thanks for all the heartwarming responses ;D Lol. I know I posted this a long while back, but id like to ressurect it. Ive by now realised that what the school did to me was illegal. I hadnt heard of Tinker vs. Des Moines at the time it all happened; and it happened more than once. Im fed up with people getting away with things like this. I called the ACLU today, but there wasnt anyone at the office. I'll be calling again tomorrow, I suppose. I dont want to sue the school or anything of that sort, no, but I certainly do want to bring this into the spotlight. Im fed up with people getting away with the sick things they do. Grapefruit own your cuticles.
Take advantage of the situation to make some money...check if you were breaking some sort of rule the school has.. if not, sew your school !
The majority of society = heads up their own asses. I would say that pretty much explains everything.
