I've shown up for ocala for a couple and had a great time. was always warned about the 5 0 being rough going in but Ive been lucky enough not to run into them. what you make it and karma plays a big part going into there...

i feel a big reason for Ocala recieving shwag reports is that there's so many crusties showing up to just party and get fucked up and that's not the purpose of a Rainbow Gathering. i don't think enough elders are present at this particular "rave-o" gathering.

i had a great time in Ocala and met lots of great family but, the bad ABC drugs were a real let down, and one night i even found what i thought to be an empty bag of coke (or SOMETHING white) INSIDE main circle. there was a lot of alcohol too but, not at main. but, for me in the end, i think a lot of folks and the main circle were cleansed during the "save-our-homes" fire and the afterward just brought an awesome energy to those family members that actually hopped into the line or started getting drinking water. i don't think there's been a time when i've thought about this and not gotten tear-y eyed.

I LOVE YOU FAMILY!!! my trumpet, guitar and myself were safe because of your effort.

its all about judging a book by its cover, the energy you take in often is what you see. my family and i were always blessed at ocala, maybe it was our energy. where your attention goes your energy flows.

Gawd. The karma-centric shit really frustrates me. What you're saying, basically, is that if something shitty happens to you, it's your fault because you "brought that energy in." Or if you see and talk about negative shit, then you're a negative person.

So why is Ocalla shwag? There are a few reasons. It lasts a lot longer than most gatherings. There aren't very many stones for building cool shit. There are a lot more men than women.

But the main reason is that it's a "road dog gathering." It's warm in Florida during the Winter. So all the road dogs who don't have anything else to do wander south and go to the gathering. There isn't a very big core of rainbow family who live in Florida year round. So it's a vastly different feel. Less hippies (although still plenty) and lots more random people who bring their own drugs and make it their own thing.

    It's just a different crowd.

I'd still go if I were you. I've gone twice for a month each time, and I had the time of my life like I always do at a Rainbow Gathering.

Here's the sample email I sent out:

SUBJ: The Rainbow Trail hike on the Florida Trail (Jan 2008)
    Dear Fellow Rainbows,
I'd like to inform you about the Rainbow Trail. We will be hiking the Florida Trail from White Springs, FL to Ocala, FL into the Valentines Regional Rainbow Gathering. The intention is to try to find solutions to the growing problems of overcrowding and other issues of the Rainbow Family. The hike is about 150 miles which will take an estimate of 12 days to hike. Meeting points will be set up along the trail. Each day we will approach solutions for the future of the Rainbow Family. If any elders are able to join us we will spend the first few days discussing the early methods and origin of the Family.
January is approaching quickly, so please pass this on to as many people as you can.

I am looking forward to this Rainbow Trail.

I am not looking forward to carrying everything I will have the whole way.

I wish I could get into your forum to discuss my options Brother Brian Love.

i've always had a great time at this gathering....although it isn't for the faint of heart heh heh heh! ocale is indeed the road dog gathering...but i kinda dig that salt of the earth element. rainbow is love and light but without darkness how would we even notice the difference? there is a balance....darkness must be present to help create this. i highly recommend going at the very least one time. i know i would be going if my babylon situation was different...in time you'll see me there again. love you family!

Shawnee is scheduled to end sometime about now. Any word on if and how long cleanup is going on or where kids are migrating to after?

I'm currently in Knoxville and am needing to hook up with kind family please.

I know Ocala is coming up and am thinking to seed the holding camp.

    Much love.

There are several reasons that the Ocala, FL gatherings is considered the worst of the gatherings.

    1. Police and Strict Enforcement - I did 50 days in the Marion County Jail for not having Possession of my registration. Not to mention a $500 fine. Ocala Florida is a very wealthy area of Flordia. That area contains many retired people and lots of horse farms. Peeing in Public will get you a sex offender status.

    2. Lots of perpetually homeless people gather in Flordia from late October until Feb. The height of the gathering being Late Nov until January. A camp is the most visible at this gathering and it does get quite rough.

    3. Thieves - This is, arguably, the worst gathering for theft and ripoffs.

There are a few good people there and some local church groups who come in and help with food and emergency needs.

I'm not completely sure if all gatherings share the problem of old perverts and runaways, but the Ocala gathering (the two years I went) had a very visible population of runaways and perverts who preyed on them.

Ocala has a lot of issues. The combination of the many issues makes a place that you don't go if you want to have a relaxing time.

My opinion is biased due to twos years in a row of bad experiences and negative vibes of that gathering.

My gear got stolen last time I went there. But that doesn't make me think that gathering itself is shwag... however it does make me feel uncomfortable returning..

I got my backpack stolen too, but that was my stupidity. And I don't think the retarded townie (whadda they called again??) meant to steal it even. But then a nice homeless woman leant me 3 bucks for gas to get home, so it all worked out.

But I like Road dogs...they've never treated me wrong

You live on the road and you've never been treated wrong by a road dog? You lie.
