my first indoor grow room

Greetings, I am building my first indoor grow room and have one last issue before I start construction. I have done my homework and feel fairly confident that I can pull off a good harvest. I am going to grow a shorter plant no more than 1 meter tall but have not yet decided on a strain yet. I am going to start with soil for at least my first crop, and convert to hydro down the road as money permits. I have a 6' x 30' room in a basement with 2 small windows for my garden area. I can section that off as needed.

Here is my delima. I have recently been blessed with 3 lights from a sinner gone saint who will not be needing them now that he has found Jesus.
a 1000 watt MH, a 400 watt MH, and a 400 watt HPS.

My initial thought was to use 4 foot florescents, with appropriate bulbs, for my vegitation area, and that would allow me to use all 3 HID lights for flowering. I know that HPS with blue spectrum is recomended, but how much of a diffrence will it make to use MH as opposed to HPS ? Can I use them all in the same room ?

Can somebody please help me ?

MH and HPS are very similar, only difference is mh is blue, hps is red. red flowering, blue veg. but u know that. i would say use the 1000w mh in ur vegg room, and the other lamps in the flower room. nowadays u can get different spectrum bulbs, so u can fit a red lamp on a MH and a blue one on a HPS. fluoros are very very lame, theyre best for seedlings and clones, if u really want to get extra lights get envirolights, blue spectrum - not the houseware but the plant ones. 2x125w would be mor than enough even if u just used a 400w MH.

but imo u have enough lights, so just put 1000W for veg, and rest for flower. about strain, first decide what high u want, what properties, then it will be easier to pick.

 

also theres a formula, 50watts per 1 square foot is good. if u can make it 75w thats exellent, plants will not gain much from huge excess of light. look at it this way- it needs co2, water and light, if u increased the light, u would need to increase the co2 and the water to see a noticable difference. i didnt quete catch if by 6x30 u meant feet or what

 

If you ask me, the 400hps and the 1000 watter for flower, the mh for veg. Or maybe you could use one of the 400s for mothers or something, but that's a bit of overkill just for moms. How was your friends using them? There are lots of ways to do this, personally if it was working for him then I'd just copy what he had going.

 

I appreciate the help. I think what I have decided is to use the 1000 watt MH for my veggie room, and I will flower in a 6 x 3 room useing the 400 Watt HPS and the 400 watt MH with a MH to HPS conversion bulb. I know the conversion bulb is kinda costly but its cheaper than a new lamp.

I have decided to go with a with an Indica / Sativa mix, maybe AK-47 . The best of both worlds ya' know. How much should I expect to harvest off one plant ?

 

My man here is the rule of thumb via BOG (he has a good book btw) double the light from veg to flowering. A 400 for veg to a 1k for flowering is ideal. You want the big boy used for flowering (and the 12 hours off will help the $ bill).

A 1000 watt MH for flowering will yield forearm buds - just plan on a good ventilation sysem for temp control.

 

if your looking to keep the size down for a shorter plant def go with a mainly indica strain,the great white shark im growing from green house seeds co is a 80/20 indica and has a max of about 120cm but i wont let them go more than maybe 70-80cm.you can also train plants to stay shorter.

Ok, That is why I am on here asking questions. There is wisdom in a multitude of council. So I would be better to get an HPS conversion bulb for The 1000 Watt MH. I see. That makes good sense. That will allow me to use the other 400 Watt HPS in a seperate 3x3 flower room. That way if I wanted a room to use for seeding I could put a male and female together in the small room to seed. Like if I wanted to cross a couple of diffrent strains. Does anyone have an opinion on Gorge cervantes's Ultimate Grow DVD?

 

I have a 7 foot cieling. What kind of yield could I expect off each plant, 1 oz - 3 oz ?

Don't worry about a conversion bulb that 1k watter is going to provide more than enough light. Do not worry too much about strain either. A seven foot ceiling is fine for everything just do not grow trees before sticking them into flowering (3 feet is a good height for a sativa dominate strain).

The UG DVD is ok good for shits and giggles and it will motivate you to buy some bubble bags (hash) - which you should considering the amount of leaf and trim you will have.

 

Ok cool. I prefer a sativa dominant strain. I have already been considering a bubble bag.
