If restricting light to the plants causes faster budding then what will happen if I COMPLETELY restrict light to a very mature indoor crop that's buds are half ripe for harvesting? Will it cause rapid budding or will it compromise my plants?

They were grown under natural lighting, outdoors and have now been moved indoors where their light has already been restricted, but I was thinking of blacking out the windows to make them flower and get it over with.

    Any advice on this?

Blacking out the windows is not only a good idea for growth, but for security reasons also. If cops drive by and see lights on at the same time everyday they will start to get suspicious and look for any evidence they can find outside or around your house to get a search warrant on you. Anything outside of your house they can confiscate for evidence legally, including anything in your trash can.

As for your plants, make sure they are stable enough before you start flowering if you just transplanted them today. Give them a day or two to make sure they stay healthy in the new environment before flipping to 12-12.

Good luck, be careful, and stay safe.

I am a little confused on what you mean by "rapid" budding.

It is tough to change the maturity date for ripeness which IS influenced by the day/night cycle. Now for max yield the different factors include optimizing nutes, light intensity, temp and co2/fresh air levels. Again the bud formation/growth between two different strains can be way different even with optimized conditions due to genetics.

Marijuana Flower Forcing - Tom Flowers -> good book on the subject.
