So, I've always known that *many* products have animal-derived ingredients but I had NO IDEA how many there are and it seems impossible to always avoid these products in terms of soaps, shampoos, etc. I don't know how to go about finding everyday products that don't have these ingredients. (especially things that you could find at any convenience store because I move around A LOT).

I'm a vegetarian and obviously fairly knew at it, I have no idea on how to go about finding products (ie: soap, toothpastes, shampoo & conditioners, and whatever other products have animal-derived ingredients) and the task seems overwhelming. Does anyone have any sources for how I can really tackle this?? (and specific brands are def something I need to know if you know any!!)

    where are you from?
I use Dr. bronners liquid soap as soap and shampoo, and sometimes dish soap and household cleaner. I condition my hair with aloe. I use some natural toothpaste i got at wholefoods. If you stock up on stuff (specially dr. bronners - it lasts forever) you dont have to buy new stuff everytime you move. I get my stuff from natural food stores/co-ops. I'm sure you could find natural stuff online also.

I am currently living in Boston. Can you find Dr. Bronner's at wholefoods?

with tooth pastes, you'll be looking for no animal testing.
I like the various tea tree toothpastes, and I have a back stash of Tom's of Maine (before the sale to Colgate-palmolive)
I like Merry Hempsters lotion, lip balm (also vegan, the main line has beeswax).
I use Nature's gate shampoo and condish, all available at Whole Foods , and some other locations, but the bulk shampoo always allowed me to get what I could afford. I recently plunged to getting gallons (half-gallon for Dr. B, since I dilute it to 1/3 soap 2/3 water) and I buy less than once a year now. THAT's liberating.

Does that "less than once a year" include multiple people, or is it only for yourself? I'm just wondering because I have 4 kids + a husband, and that to us equals mostly broke. :)

kiss my face makes a lovely aloe toothpaste.. it doesn't dry your mouth out like most tooth pastes (which defeats the purpose..)... It's not expensive, either.. For me, it's a must-have. <3
