of course An Inconvienient Truth....I believe that EVERYONE should see this someone mentioned Riding Giants!!! very nice...on that note, Dogtown and Z-boys, a film done by Stacey Peralta(who did Riging Giants, too) is a killer doc about the upstart of skateboarding like Tony Alva, Peralta, Jay Adams, et al.(note: there was a movie made based on the doc, make sure you are getting the doc, NOT the movie) The Drug Years is a great one....talks about the drug culture since the 50s to now.(great music and old school shots, and vey unbiased and well rounded) Monterey Pop 1967 - film done by D.A. Pennybaker...I had to order this online, but it is so well worth it!!!
I agree that all documentary film are worthy and very interrogative...maybe it depends on the story....Filth and Fury (Sex Pistols) was the documentary film of Juien Temple which covers also about the band...and now he has another upcoming documentary film which inspires everyone about the late lead singer Joe Strummer in the Clash band..."The Future Is Unwritten"which will be release this summer at all uk cinemas... check this next documentary film:"The Future Is Unwritten" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUhnxyl9NwE
Personally I can't wait to see this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwAQYKYrpfY It's the one that I have been working on for the last year and a half.
Into Great Silence by Phillip Groning. Great documentary about Carthusian monks. 3 hours and hardly any word spoken, and such a deep meaning.
TopNotchStoner said what I was going to say. Or Tupac Thug Angel is really good too. Just an amazing man. R.I.P Tupac.
America: Freedom to Facism Terrorstorm 9/11 police state anything by Alex Jones you cant buy these in the store but you can see them on google video.
The Grizzly Man. That documentary/movie is weird and wonderfull at the same time. Really a must see-documentary/movie
I'de say I'm pretty much a documentary buff. I watched one called Capturing The Friedmans not long ago, and it left me a bit frazzled but good none the less. A must see!
Anything by Werner Herzog (Little Dieter, Grizzly Man) is pretty good. There's also some classics by the Maysles brothers (Grey Gardens, Gimme Shelter). And a quirky documentarian named Errol Morris has made some great films as well (Gates of Heaven, Fast Cheap and Out of Control).
