dude that's fucking disgusting to say. the people who cut themselves don't have to be anywhere NEAR the 'emo' scene to even fucking touch a razor or whatever they use. emo has fucking nothing to do with cutting yourself. i am not an emo fan at ALL but that's just about the most ignorant comment i've ever come across ever.

but anyways back to the topic i can't understand how anyone could confuse the punk and emo genres - it doen't make any sense. they're on completely different ends of the spectrum, and it's quite simple to break down. "punks" don't give a fuck, for the most part they're loud, noisy, destructive, and have a point to make. "emo kids" are, well, emo kids. they're two completely different types of expression that really can't be mixed. as far as i know, the two genres don't really get along anyway, at least not where i'm coming from. the punks hate the emo kids caz they're basically pussies. the emo kids don't really hate the punks, they're just scared of em, ha. or jealous, idk :p but the two never really went hand in hand as far as i can see.

people who cut themselves are out on a binge...
One of which usually doesn't take on cuz someone said, "yo, go cut yourself...".
There's always a percieved medium like, "go fuck yourself" or "go play in traffic" All three of which I've done, and damn, either is just as good...
But seriously now, punks will most likely get in someones face and get dirty and bloody.
"Emos" just get quietly even dramatically expressive with their appearance and self ideal...
Two different genres, since emotion is a boundless current, labels tend to stick to the concentrations of such extents rather than the mild medium of a certan sentimental timephrame... Kinda like bigger picture.

Yeah this subject just seems to go round... and round... and... yeah... until any kind of opinion you ever had is sorta pointless because you can never win the debate... because it's all a matter of opinion anyway.

:) I still like to look at it as several characteristic personalities clashing, for the point of making clashing a creative outlet using progressive political ideals as the color scheme.

what i really hate is when people belive that Punk and emo are completly different....they evolved from the same roots, and wheather people acknowlege it or not they are almost exactly the same

I don't like people who place opinion in the same reference as propriety.

punk is an underground attack at the mainstream.
emo is mainstream and is commenly labeled punk.
    Do you see the problem?

emo and screamo are all MAINSTREAM pop culture.

Punk and hardcore is almost NEVER shown on the media, so all you pricks who think emo and punk is the same shit go fuck your self.

punk and hardcore are movements that started in the 70's and 80's
they have always been underground. the name is now just being misused.

a big difference. a punk band will never wish to be on the radio or get a major record deal. they just wanna have fun or make difference. not make money and be famous.
My town has shows almost every week that local punk, hardcore, and thrash bands play, but only that punk culture has even heard of these band names. Why? Becuase the bands dont care for fame or money.

All the emo you're talking about isn't emo. Please shut up if you don't know what you're talking about.

OMG YES it makes me so frustrated, my best friend still hasn't grasped the concept that the ramones were REAL punk and not just 80s metal and fall out boy IS in fact NOT punk at all, just emo and that real punks don't wear their hair the same as emos.

People used to describe bands like Fugazi as emo. Now when people say emo they're talking about My Chemical Romance. Huge discrepancy.

Personally I think emo as in "My Chemical Romance" sucks, but I'm way too punk to care if someone thinks I'm emo.

Oi Oi! there, i've been into punk 4 about 25 years now and have seen many things confused with punk. It has never really bothered me what the mainstream considers punk cos they have never had a clue what we were all about anyway and most of the time didnt care! We, the bands & the fans, know what makes REAL punk!
