Great stuff...interesting genre. It's good to hear someone else who at least knows about this type of music. Pelican is another one of those bands...as is Maudlin of the Well. There aren't a whole lot of bands who fit into this genre, and I know I'm missing some. Red Sparrows and Russian Circles are others...and yeah, I dunno...I'll stop there...haha.
I'm not too fond on it. It leans a bit to doom and drone, that's why I checked bands like Isis, Neurosis, Pelican and also Jesu and Explosions in the sky out, but all those bands doesn't do it for me. Maybe too artyfarty for me or in other cases too minimalistic or boring.
I wouldn’t say that these bands aren’t worth listening, but, unfortunately, it seems that they just reiterate some old kraut- and space-rock clichés. In my opinion, they desperately lack something existential, despite their seeming roughness. There is no raw reality in their music, I would say. By the way, I like a few postrock bands, especially Godspeed You Black Emperor and Silver Mt Zion.
I've only listened to Sigur Ros and Godspeed You! Black Emperor with one Explosions in the Sky track. Sigur Ros is my favorite so far. GYBE is so depressing, I can only listen to them once in a while.
Sigur Ros is awesome, but that's because they add elements of ambiance and 'new age' material to their post-rock sound. I still dig the genre of post-rock a lot, but I'm not a big fan of the isis/mastodon shit - post METAL has to be the worst genre out there! But Mogwai, instead of sucking like usual, just came out with an AMAZING release, "Mr. Beast". Anybody who's a fan of post-rock should definitely at least give it a try and see what you think of it. Good stuff.
check out Rosetta. very awesome post rock. as far as the best, Neurosis pretty much defined and developed the sound.
IMO, Tortoise is the best and most innovative and original. In terms of creativity and just pure awesomeness they've always been top-notch. They have a Jazz/Electronic feel that possibly even separates them from the genre of post-rock. TNT is a classic album.
I don't know much about it. It suddenly got pretty popular among metal fans, and in such a case I usually ignore it as much as I can. Isn't Cult of Luna kinda post-rockish? I like them a bit, though the vocals tend to grate my nerves.
i'm more into post metal than into post rock. i think that it is because those bands are more doomy and sludgy. something i can really dig in music once in a while

Its music, it sounds good, jeez. Certainly bands like Isis and Zozobra are the best post-rock bands. Heres the list: Ahab Baroness Cave In Converge Cult of Luna Esoteric Explosions In The Sky Giant Squid Godspeed ISIS Kinski Mouth of the Architect Neurosis Pelican Qualone Red Sparowes Rosetta <---(Phenominal album, The Galilean Satilites Sons of Otis YOB Zozobra I really do love post-rock, I am currently trying to organize a post-rock group so watch out. I'm sure all you folks would enjoy all of the bands listed above.
