if its not to conduct any business, you'd be much smarter to carry it in travelers checks as repeatedly said
depending on where you are, travelers checks can be a bitch to cash in. that coupled with finding places that except them can make them worthless in many places.and if you dont even know if there are atm's,there probably aint gonna be a whole lotta folks dealin in travelers checks. there aint going to be no hassles with any amount under 5 grand, id recommend a money belt for the majority of the cash an then keep a little in your wallet.
did i ask you if it would be a good idea to bring travelers checks? no. As I have repeatedly said, i just wanted to know the legality of crossing international boarders with cash. although 2000-3000 isnt alot of money, a 19 white male entering mexico with that much cash might be suspiscious thats what i wanted to know to begin with
oh,mexico,, are you crossing the border and traveling into the interior? if so,, damn the money belt,id recommend shoving it up your ass,,cause bein 19 you will be fucked with.. lotsa roadblocks down there, federal, state, just your average banditos,etc.etc.
not tryin to scare you,,just givin you a heads up.. but once again,at the border they may ask, just tellem you saved for vacation,,now once your in,,id be very on gaurd..
you will be fine,, if its touristy,, an no more cash than 3 grand,,they wont even blink a eye,, just stay in the tourist areas down there,,the south is on the verge of revolution...
wow just googled tullum,,beautiful,,looks laid back. may i ask,why did you pick the place? doesnt seem like its known for its party scene..
ill be teaching english and working to build the local community of Tulum Pueblo with a program called Global Vision International
