I'd just be happy I didn't have to go to work, head down to state forrest, and live like the rest of the woodland creatures, thats been my dream my whole life anyway! Just walk away, and pretend this whole shithole civilazation thing doesn't even exist!

    I wish I could do that! :)

I once had a friend who asked me to drive him to a very remote part of the Oregon Wilderness. He'd cashed out all his money, stashed it in a money belt, put whatever he thought he'd need in a backpack, and I left him out there in the wilderness with maybe a couple of days food.

I thought he was crazy, but I figured if anyone could survive there, he could.

Of course, we're talking Oregon at the end of September, in the mountains. Think cold and wet...

Three days later he shows up at my door!

    He had enough!

I hope all us urbanites don't need to find out whether we can survive in the wilds. I doubt we'd last long...

I've heard little of such things as the Israel/Syria fighting and the dropping dollar from any media source. from skip's sig I also notice that protests are being censored. so does anyone know a reliable news source that isn't so part of the system?

I read a number of good sources, as one source is NEVER enough.

The Huffington Post is probably the best American news source out there at this time. It's independent and not part of the mainstream. They do have a liberal bias. Their strongest part is their bloggers including MANY famous people whom you will recognize like Bill Maher, Matt Damon, Deepak Chopra, George Clooney, and many more.

The Guardian, a UK publication is excellent, and they've often published stories about the USA that NEVER see the light of day in the US. But in the last two months they seem to have cut back on American Politics in their coverage. It happened exactly when they changed their website. I believe the UK gov't is now vetting their stories, probably under some terrorism authority, like the US has over the Mainstream Media now.

The Independent Media Center offers up on-the-spot reports of events from around the world, with excellent coverage of protests. Unfortunately their website design is very ancient and it's difficult to find specific items or even general things without either finding the local site to visit or sorting thru lots of other items. They could be doing a MUCH better job with a SINGLE website than dozens all over the place.

Those are a good start. I have others for more specific types of news. Even
Al Jazeera is a good place to hear other points of view.

I have been preparing for something like this for a while, like others in this forum. Though I never thought about getting a gun......but now I am pondering the possibility.

Everything that Hollywood has taught me is that disasters only occur in the Northern Hemisphere.

    Have fun with Armageddon -
Feel free to crash at mine guys, it's coming into spring and the weather's reasonable ;]

personally, when talking about the collapse of the society we live in,i would say guns an the ability to use them properly without hesitation should be number 1 on peoples list.

when it happens, your peace an love mentalities will surley get you ,at the very least raped and pillaged if not dead.

Guns? You should be arming yourselves with knowledge! Knowledge of survival in the natural world, edible plants and such. Sure guns would be great, till you run out of ammo!

The end of the system is coming, the question is: when?

Well, pondering owning a gun isn't a terrible thing to do, look what happened after Katrina. There were people armed and shooting while taking what they could get and the police seemed unable to do anything about it. Knowledge is a good thing but so is honest thinking about the worst case scenario.

That's what happens when you restrict something. Anti-that-something agencies atrophy, and can do nothing when something happens.

I already have a plan in place. I have some property in the appalachian mountains in West Virginia. I'm going to move down there a literally live off the land. People there are amazing. I've never met people who could live virtually free of electric, heat, water and food expenses. I have learned alot about being self-sufficient and even more on living in harmony with our environment Let the banks close and the government break down! Bring it on, I'm ready!!!!

when you have conviction and a plan, you wont run out,at least till you lose the game. every gun battle you survive you should scavenge what you can from your attackers.

i have all the knowledge of survival i need, the wild card is a well armed farm.

knowing what wild plants to eat wont stop a pillaging whored, and you cant run and hide forever..
