Hello, My sister needs someone who has been in her position that can help better than me just saying "I understand". My name is Janet and my sister was in a very serious car accident May 16, 2007. She lives in Palm Bay, Florida and was driving north on I-95 going to work. At the same time, a guy was on a suicide mission and under the influence (note was later found) heading south. At speeds over 90 mph he was weaving in and out of traffic and then decided to cross the grassy median, sending him flying through the air, head on into a Brevard County truck. The county truck slid into Lisa's van and threw her 137 feet off the highway, at 70 mph, into trees. The guy in the red truck flipped end over end after hitting the county truck. The guy in the red truck was cut in half. The two trucks blew up as the red truck carried lawn chemicals and the county truck was carrying fuel. (The county truck man was a father of five and under the influence also, died) Lisa said it was like those car commercials where everyone in the car is talking and then all of a sudden BAM! As the two trucks are burning to nothing, Lisa is sitting in her van, with air bag and windshield in her face, steering wheel in her chest, dash, engine and transmission in her lap. She was alert through till surgery time! She said brave people ran to her to try to get her out but they couldn't.. she was stuck. A fireman got to her and in the van, shielding her with her boogie board that flew to the front of her van. With the jaws of life they were able to pry her out and that's when the pain kicked in. Before that she could not feel anything. She was afraid she was paralyzed. Lisa was not paralyzed, thank God. Both hips were turned inward, she broke her left arm, both femur bones, both tib and fibula bones in both legs (shin area) shattered her right knee, shattered her right ankle, shattered right heel bone and broke all her toes and bones in her right foot. Lisa has pins and plates in both legs from top to bottom. At her most recent check up they were concerned that the right femur bone is not connecting and they are going to have to do bone grafts (if that's the right word) to get them to meet in November. Her right femur bone is connected to her hip then space and then bone to her knee. There is a chunk of femur bone that was broke out and off and slid down her leg ( back of her thigh) at the point of impact. She has been able to use a walker just the last few weeks to walk around and we are so proud of her. My reason for finding this forum through Google (thanks Google!) is because my sister cries so much becasue of lonliness. She has me and mom, her three kids (two ex husbands, still good guys in a way) and her fiance of three years ( he's a keeper) but it seems all her "friends" have kind of floated away. My sister is the type that has always been there for everyone to talk, or what ever but now she is stuck at home and I feel she needs to talk with someone who has been through a life changing event like this and pulled through to the other side. Lisa has good moments and other times she is so far down, all I can do is helplessly listen. I live in Georgia and go down to see her several times a month but due to work and kids in school and college... i'm stuck too. She spends all day on her lap top and I know she just goes round and round looking for answers and purpose. I am going to give you her email as I am not sure how these forums work.. I don't know how to find if anyone responds to me. Please let Lisa know that people do care and that she is not alone. beachpua@yahoo.com God Bless you and your family, Always. Most Sincerely, Janet
