    Hello everyone,

Have you ever attended a peace rally? What should I expect? I myself have never been to one, so I'm clueless!

Expect feeling unity with all those people for peace.. its wonderful. Expect to get angry but see and hear amazing things. Expect there to be people protesting your peace rally... but fuck them!

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm actually planning it out now, even though I've never been to one.

I mentioned it to this one girl and she lost her mind haha. She said that I was in the wrong, but what's so wrong with wanting peace?

    :)

dont be surprised if you're harassed by the cops. They hate people like us. They are not afraid to use tear gas and unjust force on peaceful crowds. It will be a great experience and you will leave wanting to make a difference every day. dont let that feeling fade

great, just attended a big one in DC today, it was great but we got called "dope smokers" unjustly by the cops several times, some of us got arrested (even US iraq vets!) we got nasty looks from the cops, tear gas, acoustic weapons, riot officers, everything, for what? a peace rally, a bunch of hippies doing no harm, its kinda like taking a trip with your hippie friends to nazi germany (and that's an understatement considering what americans would like to do to us)

Wow. Amazing. I can't believe that they'd use tear gas on you guys.

Worse thing that's really happened to me was someone yelling out "get a life", but thats nothing. haha.

the police set up a barrier around the capitol and some people decided to jump over it in some bs protest and got pepper-sprayed. there wasn't any tear gas or more sophisticated weapons in sight and very few recognizable hippies. i only caught a whiff of patchouli once the entire day.
other than the gathering of eagles (about 1000) protesting us it was peaceful and the police were all polite and kept their distance. other than at the capitol, the only time the police got involved was to keep it from becoming ugly between the anti-war and pro-war folks.

I was at the protest on Saturday, too. It was awesome! Well, except for the people who were arguing and a woman next to me who was flicking off all of the pro-war people. Bad vibes, seriously.
But the die-in thing was great. (Cindy Sheehan tripped over this dude who was laying near me! lol. He and his friends got to take their picture with her.) Anyhow, I think I'm now willing to be arrested for civil disobedience. [IMG] When I told my mom about the people being arrested at the protest, she told me that if I get arrested, she's not going to help me out. lol. Does anyone know how much bail would be for this kind of stuff?

    So, in conclusion:
Protests = awesome. Awesome times 5 billion. Everyone should try it sometime.

By the way, there's another protest in D.C. on the 29th of September. There may be some events in other parts of the country around that time, I dunno.

you know that just sitting there isnt going to cause any change. im not saying violent actions will make everything better, but use direct action. maybe get crimethinc's RECIPES FOR DISASTER:an anarchist cookbook or something. that actually has tactics that will make a difference. put together affinity groups! wheat paste. tag shit up. hop trains and make a political influence in each city. AT LEAST DO SOMETHING. www.crimethinc.com

We weren't just sitting there. We were marching first of all, chanting, with signs, etc. And we were laying down to represent people that have DIED for this horrible war, on capitol property. People were trying to go into the capitol and getting arrested.

Sooooo yeah no one was just sitting there. A peaceful protest is the way to go

And thanks for telling us about the one on sept 29th, I'll be there!

I'm willing to go to protests and to get arrested, but I will NEVER destroy public property or commit violent acts. People don't change the world by spray-painting graffiti on highway overpasses or by making bombs in their basements -- they change the world by organizing like-minded individuals and by proving that their issues are important. The President won't end the war just to stop people from making Molotov cocktails; he'll do it when (or if) he realizes how unpopular his war is.

Agreed. Violence and vandalism just gives people a bad name. It just makes them brush off anything you have to say. We're trying to overcome THEIR violence. I don't think you can fight violence with violence.

I have a better idea: get naked! That always gets the conservative establishment to sit up and take notice! :rmoon2:If everyone did it they couldn't arrest us all.

  16. Yep-and after they impeach Bush, they should sentence him to a nudist colony....not that anyone would want to see him in that state.....
