I don't know where you can get tea plants within driving distance.

But Here are some west coast plant sources:
    Greer Gardens: http://www.greergardens.com/camellias1.htm
Nichols Garden Nursery (very expensive): http://www.nicholsgardennursery.com...1200&mscssid=9A9T88LU69LK8LUWXUNAC9VRTJ2679H3
    Burnt Ridge Orchards: http://www.burntridgenursery.com/search/searchprods.asp

Not west coast, but a good one, Camellia Forest Nursery: http://www.camforest.com/camellia.htm

For seeds: Whatcom Seed Company - seedrack.com: http://seedrack.com/indiv/camellia_sinensis.html

Getting plants into California could be tough. You might want to ask these folks:

Local Club: Camellia Society of Sacramento
Address: 1466 Brookdale Dr., San Jose, CA 95125
    Contact: Mrs. Beverly Allman
    Phone: 408-295-8068

Local Club: Camellia Society of Santa Clara
Address: 1898 Kirkmont Drive, San Jose, CA 95124
    Contact: Mr. Robert Marcy
    Phone: 408-295-8068

    Hope this helps.

    Peace,
