I've only seen one russian film recently. It was fantastic It was a Soviet silent film, with the original score played live by the bbc symphanie orchestra I've only seen silent films by a french man... I forget his name, but none of these compared to this film. It was excellent; a wonderful experience. As stimulating in emotion and thought as any modern film.
I love old russian films. I don't love the new russian cinema because there are too much gungsters, guns... But sometimes good films go on the air.
no doubt-tarkovskeijs films are all amaaaaazing(the sacrifice is one of my favoutite) even though I like russian ark...what is it exactly about? The short films by the ukrainean/russian/american film maker maya deren(elynka derenkovski) are very good too-I wrote one of my film essays on her films. Her book meditation on violence is amazing too.
I'm not into russian movies, but I remember watching a movie I really liked some years ago, that I think is russian. I think it was Luna Papa, a weird comedy-thing. I remember they flew away with a roof using the ceiling fans. And a goat drifting around alone on a raft. I want to watch it again now. Time to search the web for it.
I just watched "The Return" a few days ago...I thought it was really good. The film they used was just beautiful; it makes me want to go to Russia. All the other media I've seen of Russia is of the dark, cold, grungy cities, so it was a refreshing change. I've also seen night watch, which was also very good.
I love Russian movies. but i gotta be honest. Russian Ark was awful! PS I would put Ivan the Terrible under comedy for sure...at lease the one i saw was funny! Did anyone see Schizo? It's actually filmed in Kazakhstan but they all speak Russian. I enjoyed that one.
oh yeah and I actually saw Nochnoi Dozor (Night Watch) in theaters...it was playing in select theaters for a weekend or something. i loved it. was fantastic
i have only seen one russian film nightwatch and i loved it, been meaning to see daywatch for a while now but haven't got a copy yet, anyone seen it?
"The Ballad of a Soldier" and "The Cranes are Flying" are my favorite Soviet war movies. I like any Soviet movie based on a classic Russian novel. When I saw "Crime and Punishment" it lasted three hours. During that time no one talked. No one left the theater. It was that engrossing.
BRILLIANTAVAYA RUKA (diamond arm) IS MY FAVOURITE MOVIE Andrei Mironov was just the most brilliant actor I'm so used to watching old Russian comedys, it's pretty much all my family watches (most of them dont speak english) so those are some of my favourite films! The other one I adore is Ivan Vaseilevich menaet professiu
i've only seen two.........war and peace....where i saw it it was shown in two two parts on two differant nights.i'm glad i saw it.i had read the book.it was released in 1968.the characters looked like the people that i envisioned in my mind.i hear it was very expensive to make.but i'm glad they got it done because i think it was far better than the film made in the 50's.......i also saw "battleship potemkin"very good film.i wish i have seen more russian movies.
Russian films are the best ones ever. The French were only the first to realise this. All films by Tarkovsky and Eisenstein just blow me away.
