Hey guys I'm new here. I'm a young hippie guy trying to find my way in life. I'm not very materialistic, but money is sometimes required - gotta have the necessities (food, place to sleep, can't forget ganja). A problem I have is I'm kind of mysterious because my hair is locked and I'm very shy. I can rarely hold conversations well in a workplace environment or anywhere. I'm curious what do you hippies young and old do to survive in this distorted society?

you have to look inward to find that inner spark..that make's you "tick"...that aspect of self that defines who you are...life goes on..and slows for no one...in order to be a part of it you have to be out there in it....the adaptation skills come from learning your way through the maze of bullshit ....be true to yourself

as unfortunate as it is..job's are pretty much a requirement to survive...if you can find work which satsifies you and you enjoy....well life tends to be a bit easier
life has to be lived in order to be learned...and as long as you are afraid to "jump in the deep end" so to speak....then it is hard to learn life and find your place in it...every day is a learning experience....and attempting to perceive it from the side lines only gives you a false sense of understanding...you have to be a part of it ...fears are conquered by facing them...not avoiding them....avoid your fears and you surrender your abilities to overcome them
good luck on your endevour...just remember.......pave your path well,it is you who has to walk it

I got a job over the sumer. I didn't want to work for some big corporation and I didn't want to work with meat. I couldn't think of anything, but one of my friends told me they were going to work as a caddy at the town's country club. he told me how much it payed and for a summer job for a teenager it was definitely decent. S I went to work their, but I quit within a day. You have no idea what its like working for snobby stuck up old rich people. So i was pretty strapped for cash, and I'm really looking to buy an old Hippie van and fix it up by the time I get my lisence so I really wanted a job. I ended up volunteering for the Obama campaighn by making calls. It didn't pay, but it was still nice. Anyway I just had a yard sale, which made me a good amount of dough.

I work in a warehouse right now, it could be a good place for you, as they dont really care about looks, and the pay is really good if you can get your way into the machinery (I'm making decent money driving forklifts). I am planning on getting myself back in school though and get a better, and more enjoyable job. But this isn't bad. It's my second warehouse, and this one is with a union, who fights for worker's rights, which is pretty cool.

or what a 14 year old can do, your at an age where you can still get away with borrowing from your parents. You can't even get a work permit in most states, and certainly can't get a good paying job at your age.

Hey, I have the same. I'm very awkward in social situations and am afraid of being among strangers alone. But hey, when the financial situation gets too tight and you can't expect help from parents or guardians anymore, well, you gotta bring in the money.

For instance... next friday I gotta stand at a marketplace in a Donald Duck suit... :leaving: I'm really anxious and scared about having to be at a public place for eight hours on end but I gotta live!

hey lounge act ,you sound like janitorial work would be right up your alley,I not trying to be funny .I too have a hard time getting along with other people,I find them boring ,they find me wierd. The only job I was comfortable with was a janitor ,you usually work at night by yourself or with one or two other people. And believe it or not you can make some desent money if you get in the write door.

Haha, when I think of janitors, I think of Christopher Walken in Joe Dirt. That was a janitor nobody messed with! Seriously, it's always sounded like a job I would have liked, I tried to find one through the temp agencies but never could. Now I'm too broken down to work, but I still think I'd like that job. I've made decent money in the past at other jobs but it really didn't make life better - too many work hours, too much stress to enjoy life as a whole.

I worked for a corporation (copy center of an office supply chain) and it was horrible. Yes, it provided me with money, but I feel like I sold my soul. About a month ago, I got a job at a local music studio where I take lessons. It's like night and day; I love work now. Maybe try to see if any mom-and-pop stores in your area are hiring?
