Alright, so for the time that I've been smokin' bud, I've been cool with just lightin' up with a good ol' joint, or using this (ghetto) home made gravity bong. I'll sometimes be able to use one of my older buddies ice bongs, when I'm over at their joints and either of us have stuff, but other the the larger size, I still prefer my gravity bong....well, what I'm asking is, would an upgrade be worth it? I know people who I can give money to, to get me somethin' else, but is it really that diffrent? Thanks.
A good gravity bong will get you more baked then any other peice. If you want a smoother, portable piece, then go ahead a buy somthing, but its really your dissicion. But to awnser your question, the only difference will be a smoother hit.
I would definately suggest a bong man. I know the gravity bong is cheap and easy, but did you know that the tin foil heats up and you inhale a small ammount of plastic each hit, espeically if you use it for a while... The bong would give you hits that size and make them nice and cool so your lungs aren't complaining all the time . Good luck man!

my g bong doesnt have tinfoil on it. who the hell smokes tin foil. i poked a holt in the cap of the bottle and put my bong stem in it. or u can make a bowl outta a bolt or something.
I always smoke out of a pipe but i would suggest a bong, you get such better hits. But thats just MO. I would get one but i dont have money for one and i have no where to put it because there so big. My friend suggested to me that i should put it in my room and put flowers in it to make it look like a vase but i dont think that would work.
the question is how much do you want to spend and do you have dank weed. If unlimited ammount of funds get a vaporizor, but only danks smoke really well out of here or just get a nice foot or so bong, or gravity bongs are fun too
Pool bong. Get a 5 gallon jug, and cut of the bottom and place in a pool. Put a bowl on top of the spout and pack it with a gram or two light it up light a normal gravity bong, have a friend hold it and swim under and into that bitch.
if you have no problem with your joints or gravity bong, then there is no reason to upgrade. other peices such as a nice glass bat will be more conservative with your weed, though, but if you dont see the need to smoke something else, there is no need to spend the money. if you want a new piece and can afford it, go for it. i suggest a nice bubbler - they're great! like portable mini-bongs. ive got a pretty nice sidecar bubbler, and i absolutely love it. an added bonus is that if its inconvenient to fill it with water, you can just smoke it like a regular bowl and it works just fine. if i've got a full sized bong and want to smoke without water, it just doesnt hit quite right. (IMO - not to say it can't be done)
^shit man, whenever i hit my bong without water its fucking harsh as hell, and it takes me like 3 hits to clear...but it gets me BAKED.
yeah, but you can get equally baked with a few more pleasant, small tokes off a different pipe. i'd prefer more smoking and more pleasant smoking to speed, thats all. besides, i've got a 2' bong and my own apartment - no one around to hear it if my windows are closed, so i have no reason not to just hit it with water in it. bongs give big hits, but burn weed quickly as a result...
but shit, i think i might need to finish the last hit or two in the bubbler then load one or two hits worth in ye olde two-footer edit: side not to the OP: if you DO have the money to spend and the desire to "upgrade," i suggest spending the 20-60USD to get a decent, probably somewhat small glass piece. when clean, glass pipes offer the absolute BEST possible taste for good quality marijuana. even mid-grade pot tastes downright palatable if you have a good, clean piece. as it gets broken in, it will hit smoother - to an extant. once it reaches a certain point, all the resin makes it taste bad. A happy medium i try to achieve is a resinated stem with the actual bowlpack the pot is packed in cleaned out on a regular basis. the resin builds up inside the pipe to help smooth the smoke a bit and make the pipe more attractive if it is so-called "color changing glass" but the bowl itself is clean, so you get a good and clean tasting hit. if you want to go this route, when the resin builds up in the bowl, you may CAREFULLY scrape as much out as you can without risking any damage to the bowl. this is smokable and should be saved until you need it - at some point you will run out of money and pot at the same time, or run out of pot and not be able to find any or not want to wait. you can smoke resin and it will get you very high, though it will taste and smell like shit. after you scrape the bowl without damaging it, some resin will inevitably be left behind. go to the local pharmacy and get alcohol pads. these are used by people who have to give themselves injections regularly (such as some diabetics) as well as in first aid for minor cuts and scrapes. they have myriad uses, and happen to work exceptionally well at getting every last smudge of resin out of your bowlpack. wait a few minutes after use and all the residual alcohol evaporates out of the bowl and you can smoke out of it and it will taste like brand new without having to clean the entire piece. but thats just how i tend to do it....most people go all-or-nothing, not cleaning the piece at all, or cleaning the entire piece on a regular or semi-regular basis. either way it will be a more conservative way to smoke most likely, and if you get a normal bowl it will likely taste better, too, which is a big bonus when smoking high quality herb - the taste of really good stuff is incredible, and you cant get nearly as nice a taste with a gravity bong as you can with a nice bowl. the smoke in a grav sits around so long most of it gets stale before you can hit it, and tastes terrible. a joint is good but i -personally- dont prefer a joint for taste over a bowl. other people may disagree, but i think joints get too resiny while bowls help bring out the flavor of the pot itself better. so if you decide to get a proper pipe, i would highly advise you to go with a simple, affordable and attractive glass pipe for your first good piece.
