the mind searching for logical perfection. this leads (hopefully) to the realization that logic is imperfect, and that perhaps there is more to this existance than logical understanding.

Infinite rationalizations and ramblings created and sought for by ones mind to (attempt to) soothe ones soul and give purpose to ones body.

i think of a philosophy as spatial , a way of thinking that has a boundary . it includes and excludes ideas creating an identity mind-space . tuQa~ is the philosophy that states this .

    That has boundaries?
The reasonings and rationalities of the mind, and the mind in it's very self have no boundaries, isn't this one of the main points in practicing philosophy? Isn't it this that keeps us, as individuals and as a society, searching and philosophising?

    In this same light,
could the spiritual be trying to understand the physical?

Most deffinitly...Although this might lead to other places than philosophy..

For the purpose of your assignment philosophy is the use of common sense knowledge in the ordinary individual to explain the way things are in every conceivable branch. Also important to note is that philosophy, unlike investigative sciences, history and mathematics, is the business of every single person on the planet. All of the other subjects mentioned are specialized. Philosophy because of its connection to common sense knowledge (defined as knowledge that we possess from common experience) is the field of the generalist. It is everyone's business. Philosophy is not specialized because it entails thinking based on the common experience of being able alive.

I wouldn't be so quick to say most definitely.

You ought to explain, first, how "the spiritual" is defined. "The physical" is pretty generally and readily understood, one might think.

Saying 'the spiritual' immediately leads one to think of a mystical and foreign concept that is not readily or generally understood.

Does it not all depend on the posters notions on the nature of the mind, on the nature of knowledge and of language?

I think you misundertood what i meant.

If the physical is trying to understand the spiritual, then shouldn't the spiritual be trying to also understand the physical? It's a question of balance and collaboration, in order for the mind to come to any kind of conclusion or comprehension, be it philosophy or not, elements need to cooporate for there to be any kind of benefaction.

That which we see and do does not limit the mind. There are no limits within the mind, simply different paths.

    lol

There's no way i could fully understand and therefor describe what the spiritual is. It's faith, it's the unrational, it's the unexplainable, it's instinct, it has no specific form..

Then why bother asking whether the spiritual is trying to understand the physical.

Mystical mumbo jumbo? In other words. Just some way of deceiving ourselves? That life is more than the sum of it's parts?

    I second that :p

Philosophy is just the study of wisdom. There are three parts, metaphysical (ie spiritual), ethics, and i think the last one is the study of words, or communication. Also of these sum up philosophy because as human, who know we are going to die, is to make up some story to make us feel better about ourselves. Ethics is just to justify our actions in whatever suits us. And the last i forget...

Philosophy is nothing more then trying to understand.
