The fast-food chain is also developing what it calls BK Fresh Apple Fries. The red apples are cut to resemble french fries and are served in the same containers as fries, but they are not fried and are served skinless and cold. "We not only want to better inform parents and kids about these new menu options but also to demonstrate through product innovation that better-for-you foods can be fun and taste good," said John Chidsey, Burger King's chief executive. The 2.4-ounce serving of Apple Fries will have 35 calories, the company said. A small serving of Burger King french fries has 230 calories and 13 grams of fat, according to Burger King's Web site. Burger King will use U.S. grown apples that are cut and packaged in a sterile environment and subjected to a pre-wash that contains lemon to keep them from turning brown, said Burger King spokesman Keva Silversmith.
Why do fast food chains feel the need to be healthy now? Everyone will still go there for the fattening burger and fries. It's a great idea-but fast food has already created it's own rep-nothing can fix that.
Anyone who actually cares about health or a wide, wide range of issues would not spend money there anyway So pointless And just a marketing ploy
Cold fries-shaped pieces of apple? Haha, insane! I bet a fresh whole apple from the supermarket or grocerystore is cheaper AND healthier.
i'd got to mcdonalds and get kai and joey those apple dippers. the apples are AWESOME. crisp, juicy, tangy/sweet. combine that with an orange juice (kai) and apple juice (joey), you've got a light snack on the run. it's great. they stay happy and i don't have to go all the way home because i didn't plan for my errands to take so long.
Sorry, but I honestly believe that bringing kids to McDonalds or any fast-food joint is a bad idea. T
well, i consider it from the viewpoint that they're not going to be with me forever. am i going to give them a complex by taking them to mcdonalds or by NOT taking them to mcdonalds? if i can break them of the mental marketting addiction to burgers, how much the better? but then, there's that convenience thing.
At the moment, all of these discussions are quite easy to decide for me. I don't have any kids yet. When I do, I'm sure a lot of compromises will have to be made but for now I'm sticking with the boycott.
Heh, I was thinking the same thing. I think every fast food place should offer a veggie burger. Also, it irks me that the veg. burgers come only with lettuce and mayo. If you want other veggies you have to request them.. not that it's a huge deal, but come on. It's called a VEGGIE burger... If BK rolls out with apple fries I'll definitely get them with my veg burger. I bypass the fries as it is, but it would be cool to get a healthy side item when all you have time for is drive-thru.
