I know there are quite a few members who have mentioned that they couldn't handle milk and/or any dairy products~but how did you find out that you were lactose intolerant, did u go to the docs for allergy tests & bloodwork or did u just eliminate dairy on your own & notice that your health got better.

For anyone with a lactose intolerance~~what were your symptoms that led you to believe u couldn't tolerant dairy.

I think that I am mildly lactose intolerant. I have never been to the doctor about it, but one day I read an article about how dairy can cause cramping and bloated feelings in your guts and most people don't realize that it is a sign of lactose intolerance. Well just prior to reading the article I had decided I wanted to try and be healther and would start drinking more milk. (hahaha) I noticed that for some reason after eating supper (which is when I was drinking milk) my guts would feel bloated and cramped. I didn't know why until I read that article. I then stopped drinking milk and consuming as much dairy and the cramping and bloated feelings stopped.

Yep. Cramping, bloatedness, heaviness, irritability and generally feeling like crap. Sometimes thered be nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea and weakness, although usually it was just a "this doesnt feel right inside me" feeling, the bloatedness etc. And a rash up my arms

I just realised it couldn't be a coincidence that every time I had milk [on cereals or a milkshake] I ended up feeling really queasy.

My brother has a diffrent but even worse reaction, had symptoms for years but the doctors just treated those. Then a few years ago our mother was taking a holistic theraphy course, and got to learn about food intollerances. So she took him along to get an allergy test which flagged up dairy as a problem and he's been off medication ever since.

So now we both have soya milk & ice cream; we also limit the other kinds of dairy we eat.

uhhhhhhhhh, a heart attack at 19 because I could not digest dairy, and it was the majority of my diet (really poor, government cheese no less). I became VERY underweight and with asthma as a preceding condition, a heart attack was a pretty natural outcome.

For me - I've got 15 minutes from the time I eat dairy before I'm spending SERIOUS quality time with a good book in the little room. (sigh) Not pretty, and not really worth my time to confirm whether this is an official "allergy" or just a sensitivity. If it makes ya sick, leave it alone.
    love,
    mom

Well, I'm allergic (not intolerant) so for me it was a little different. I react to dairy in any form- cheese included- with a burning rash from head to toe. After 6 months of that, I came home from school and my doctor immediately gave me a blood test for allergens and voila. It's a delayed thing for me though so I could never connect the dairy with the rashes.
