I'm looking for a certain situation. The town I'm in is very unkind, unfriendly, and unhelpful to a person like myself. I have dreads and am not at all like most of the people in my town who are the very old-fashoned-conservative-bumkin type so finding even the most basic of jobs is extremly difficult and while I am attending school to further my career plans it doesn't put money in my pocket just yet.

    My point:

I'm seriously thinking of riding up the east coast very soon with only my tent and clothing and I'm looking for towns that I could find work very quickly and maybe even a safe place to throw my tent up. I will do what I have too to make this happen. My ideal situation would be me finding a cool town getting a job on the same day of arrival and regestering with a local community college but actually finding a job that quickly would be more fortunate than I could imagine. I have a little money for a possible bus ticket and if I can come with something I would take a bus rather than hitch.

Anyway if anyone can help me out with this one in any way I would be forever grateful and would galdly repay the favor somehow.

    thanks

not sure where youre starting or how far up the coast youre planning on going, but i can tell you that around me- good luck!! Not very openminded. In fact, quite like what youve described. I'd have to say go up to New England. Ive always found that there are areas up there where people are openminded, friendly, and welcoming.

Wish i could be of more help!

Come to Cape Cod, enroll in Cape Cod Community College, which is the #2 community college in the U.S. And #1 in New England. You would easily find a job in the summer with all the tourism. In the winter it is harder to find jobs, but then again all the resident kids go back to school and work less or not at all.

Hi, sorry that we are not on the east coast. We are in NW Nebraska. We're about 30 minutes from Chadron where there is Chadron state university if you wanted to continue school. Jobs are kind of scarce here, but one can be found without too much effort.

What we have here is 7 acres that we are making self-suffiecent so as not to NEED the money to survive. We are a spiritual group but not religious fanatics.

If your interested, we can definetly put you up and possibly help you with the funds to get here. If you'd like more info, email me or you can call us at 1-800-665-1637. Just remember we are 2 hours behind you. Hope to hear from you soon.
    Peace and God Bless,
    Ken

You might see if Sirius Community could use another apprentice, or stay at the peace pagoda or shelters on the Appalacian trail.

My boss is looking for an overnight personal care attendant as well. If you were thinking of western MA I might suggest going to UMass off Campus housing on a Wednesday and speak to the lady who runs the homeshare program. Greenfield Community College and Holyoke Community College are also both great colleges.

If I could live anywhere in the world though, it would be Vermont. I live a half hour from Brattleboro, and I feel like I am entering another dimension whenever I cross the state line- everyone is so relaxed and cool.

I would totally take you in if I wasn't couch surfing myself right now.

    :)

Thanks for the responses everyone. Hey Griffon, thanks alot man. I would take you up on that if I was heading in that direction. Its really cool for you to offer like that. I've been wanting to ride back up New England way for quite some time. I used to travel a bit up there on Grateful Dead when I was younger but its been a while. I really loved New York state and Vermont alot. Cape Cod sounds cool. I'm gonna look that up and do some research.

Sirius Community and Peace pagoda? I'm gonna have to see what that is as well. I was thinking the Appalacian trail might be a good place to look.

I'm gonna go check out some of these new found options. Thanks so much to everyone for the help. I've got but a few weeks to get something going.

    Hi Sprout!

Yeah -my area has alot of new business coming because it is right off the main drag of 1-95. It also has plenty of construction, some resteraunts, landscaping/greenhouses and some cool people -even thought there r not alot here. I live near a lake-(at the end of my street) and there r loads of parks.
I know of a couple of cool place to put your tent up -where u would be safe from loiter-ers, freaks, cops that wanna give u a hard time-
Most people find a job quickly with medium pay-enough to live off and if u r in a tent maybe some xtra...
If interested email more and I can be more helpful-Good Luck!
