my family is like anti-vegitarian. (god made animals for us to eat bullshit) I watched that chew on this peta video today and it broke my heart. I deffinetly want to become a vegetarian. How do i deal with not eating meat around my family?
jus try not to make a big deal about it. you know, dont mention it or become to preachy about it - nobody likes that anyways. jus eat what u want....if thjey make a chicken dinner, jus say "no thanks" or "i dont really like chicken anymore" or whatever. and jus go make something for yourself. get some cash and go 2 the grocery store 2 buy stuff that you can eat. when i was little, my mom made meat alot....and back then i wasnnt a vegtiraian, but i didnt really like meat. so i jus made a grilled cheese sandwich or something, whatever was avialable. but since yer older, u can go buy yer own food! eventally im sure they will understand that your new found vegitarism is harmless and maybe even be inspired.. i mean i jus went veg like earlier this summer, but didnt make a huge deal about it to my b/f and sister(my roomates). i was respectful of their meat choices and in return, they respected my NON-meat choices. i never pushed anything on them. yeah sure once in a while ill tell them a little veg-is-healthier-for-you fact, but nothing too major. while it was hard for them to adjust to my new eating habits(hard to take me out to certian resturants!), nowadays, both of them eat less meat and take me out to veggitrian restuarants or make me a vegitiarian dish. or ill cook a veg dish and they will all eat it. ! so yheah dont let yer parents get in the way of yer choices!
I just told them straight that this was what I was going to do, provided any information they did want, prepared my own food and helped with the shopping. If you're well researched and confident in your choice it'll come through. Ultimatly they want you to be happy and well fed, so just talk to them, they might react better than expected. Perhaps it would help to say you just want to try vegetarianism for X days/weeks/whatever. Hopefully by the end of that time they'll have got used to the idea, and you'll be healthy and motivated so keep it up afterwards. As is my family have been quite suppourtive, but it took about a year before they really got to grips with it and that this isn't just a phase. I often making veg food for us all to share, showing by example that it's not weird or about being deprived. Hope that helps, good luck
i just dont eat the meat. when i still lived at home i wouldnt eat meat which would piss my mom off but she eventually got used to it and even got her eating tofu!! LOL
You could talk about it, just be straigh. My parents gave me a hard time, by telling me I was to young. But I kept talking about it. And finally my parents allow me to become one. And now I'm a vegetarian for 7 years. Just make your complains, I would say. Good luck!
