    Um, well, this is probably NO help at all, but here goes... when I was about 15-16, my best friend (male) basically just came right out and asked me, but it wasn't awkward or anything at all...

    I'm with what Allonym said, though. I mean, if you just want to "learn" and not take it too seriously, you have to have a really good friend. Good enough friends that you're not scared to just ask, like my best friend. But you also want someone that you won't end up having feelings for because of it... again, like my best friend. We were totally comfortable and everything, just, so incredibly comfortable around each-other that we could NEVER take it too seriously, either. Never ruined our friendship, never even started to get serious at all or anything... that's what kind of friend you need if you just want "practice".
