Whats the difference in living costs and work? I have been thinking of coming down to one or the other, but i really dont know much about both to know which one. ok, so if i had 1,000 dollars in american, id have 500 in nz??? is it the same in australia? what about the cost of a two bedroom trailer/house/apartment? and what jobs are there? any call center jobs?

    HI !
I'm Nacho from Argentina and I'm going to NZ this Saturday (in 4 days) for 1 year. I got my Working Holiday Visa that lets me live and work there for 1 year. I haven't planned too much, but can tell you that there's plenty of work for backpackers in New Zeland. Working in the farms is very common. Picking kiwies, apples or other fruits is the most common work but if you have a good english you can work as a bar tender, or in a hotel as a receptionist or something like that, you know.
1000 american dollars are equal to 1315 kiwies (more or less). The less you can get per hour of work in NZ is 10.25 dollars (minum tax), but a common salary would be around 15 per hour. A room per week in Central Auckland (the capital) will cost you around 150 dollars pw, it's cheaper in other cities like Wellington or in the South Island.
I believe that a job in a call center should be very easy to find (if you like speaking in the phone 8 hours per day). As I said before, there are lots of jobs available for travelers and they are very well accepted.
I don't know anything about life in Australia but I've heard that it's more difficult than in NZ (because they have more population and they don't need MANY people as they do in NZ).
Hope I've been useful to you. If you're planning your trip to NZ in the future you can contact me for some help. I'll be able to give you some tips once I'm there or help you out with anything you would need.

    Peace from Argentina :)

    Nacho

Hi Nacho, I think you're right. I live here in NZ, and I heard a lot of travellers do work part time here in NZ.

    Regards,
