Hey guys, I'm new to the forums, and also last week began my dread process. My real issue is this, I saw a poster for dreads for any hair. So i figured that i would take the chance because my girlfriend didn't want me to go natural. So the lady used a weird method. She knotted the hair together sorta like braids, but backcombed them in the process, She said in about a month they would begin to lock up and not look so braid-looking. It has now been a week and the hair does look like it is beginning to knot, but still i am fearful since i'm yet to find the method online. I was wondering if anyone had heard of it on the forums. Thanks guys
Well, it has been done that way before. They never totally stop looking like braids, but the roots will grow out as dreads and you could trim them after a while... (a long while though..), or have different looking dreads! I mean the ones I've seen started that certainly were.. unique.... It's better than backcombing with wax, at least.
i dunno, i kind of doubt those will form dreadlocks. i dont see how they can mat when its all intertwined hair. just take them out and make your own real dreads. it will be so much more satisfying. even if they arnt perfect, they will be you. braided dreadlocks on the other hand... haha.. thats totaly the best way to congo them. i braided three super lame dreads together just to keep them separated untill i had time to make them into dreads again but never ended up doing it (i never do anything with them lol) so the braids were in there for like at least 3 months. that was insane trying to get them apart. i kinda want to braid some more cause it looked pretty damn awesome. anyway, sorry that was incredibly OT lol what a threadjacker i am. good luck to the OP
ive met many people that have done it that way... just leave it alone though, no products or combing. it actually makes quite cool looking locks, with lots of patience.
eventually..you will get something that looks like dreads...well are dreads..but i doubt the experience..the journey will be the same.
