hello! so ive been wanting dreads for a while now and my hair is between 5-7 inches atm (for some reason its slightly longer on top then at the back...go figure) So, anyway i know my hairs long enough to be able to dread anyway BUT im worried about loosing too much length in the back combing process. im wanting medium thick dreads, about 1-1.5 cm thick dreads. Why im i asking about extensions you ask?...well ive been growing my hair for 13months now from shaved and im very fond of my hair and its length and i dont want to give up any of that length if i can help it. now i know you can get synthetic dreads etc but thats not what i want, im sure i read somewhere that its possible to buy real hair stands and somehow work them into you back combing process (i only want a few more inches length) al i want to know if is it possible? if so can someone: A) explain how to work in this store bought hair into the back combing process? or, B) Give me a link to some instructions. if its not possible or suitable then i suppose i will wait a few more months and do it the totally natural way cheers in advance ^___^
oooh i dunno hun! my backcombing fell out before it knotted so i would worry that the extensions would just drop off? if it were me i would either just do it now (i didnt lose hardly any length) or just stop brushing and go completely natural
you won't loose that much length, and i think in the long run it will be worth it because from what i have seen dreads that are started shorter look amazing good luck on your journey!
nonono to extensions! i think personally that extensions can seriously damage your hair and especially the way you're describing them, it will totally hinder your dreading process. put your comb down, stuff a hat on, and let your dreads form on their own, i bet they'll be boss.
I have not heard of anyone working human hair right into the dreads, but I have heard of making dreads from human hair, or using the dreads from a friend who has decided to cut, and sew them in. The thing is, you have to wait until your dreads firm up a bit before you can sew anything onto the ends.
ok well thanks for the responces anyway ^____^ ive decided to dread my hair as it is. its long enough tbh and i cant wait any longer so in a few weekends time im gunnna do it. will get some pics up around tht time laters
