As for that - Firstly, I'm glad that you've got such a good perspective on this issue, but I must point out that the majority of gay guys do not find the "female form" rupulsive. I actually find a lot of women very good looking and...:a little embarrassed:... am capable of getting off watching straight pr0n. I don't know if all straight guys really find other naked guys as "sickening" as you mentioned. Maybe it's just a macho thing?
"The Cure" Sounds like a Karl Rove G Bush wet dream...I don't need no steenkin' cure...ain't nothin wrong with me.... ya wanna cure some silly son of a bitch, cure some fundie religious freaks... those bastards need some real head work done.
Trying to cure homosexuality just further proves how homophobic the US really is. This is wrong on so many levels. Oh BTW I chose no if you were wondering.
No because this idea brings up the notion that gays are inferior to hetros, and I think that's wrong. What we need to do is convert the public to have more acceptance of us gays.
Some parents and some older gay guys know exactly where gay comes from, well the biggest chunk of the puzzle anyway. Its all contained in those early childhood years, a lot of stuff people suppress or dont remember until later in life. Remember there's only 2% of us or so, so its only one guy, one girl across a whole school year that cops certain behaviours that every other person doesnt. Its about 5 yr old girls that miss their daddie and seek out the 5 yr old (boy or girl) most like a dad in their year, and just what they are prepared to do to bond with that daddy figure while competing with the other girls. Its about 5 yr old boys that miss their mummy and seek out the 5 yr old in their school year most like a mum (boy or girl) and what they are prepared to do to bond with that mum figure Its also about the same 5 year old that seeks out the little brother or little sister type, which is actually more about the practice daughter or son, and what they are prepared to do to bond with that kid. So the answer is going to take longer to be widely accepted, that its straight guys AND girls that train a small percentage of boys and girls their same age in early childhood to be gay. And it all has to do with the last thing any straight person wants to admit to; sexual thoughts between family members Gay as we know it today, is something thats only been talked about for the last 30 years or so. Researchers are taking their time cos they are only looking for feminization of males, which only really happens in 1/4 of us. They like the rest of the straight population will see the big beefy guys in gay parades, see some of the stuff about bears, and macho guys in leather and stuff and yet still in real life will go along acting like a guy can only be gay if he's girly. Cos the truth is too scary, if someone like Ricky Martin is gay, then geez, any hot guy can be gay, if a girl like Portia DeRossi is gay, then any hot girl can be a lesbian. When you hear a church leader say something like gay is anti-family, he's addressing only some of the older generation, those that had enough kids to work some things out other straight people dont. When he says 'anti-family' he's not talking about the gay guys or girls themselves, he's talking about: * What happens when an effeminate twink is invited over to the family dinner and what the wife picks up on with the husbands reactions, something no one else is paying attention to * what the husband picks up on his wifes reactions when its a less effeminate twink * What the Dad picks up on his daughters reactions when the big beefy gay guy is invited over to dinner * What the mum picks up in her sons reactions when an effeminate chub gets invited to dinner
after reading all that im a little confused...are you saying gays SHOULD be changes or not...im having trouble following. i think you are born the way you are and if you are truly havening trouble being gay and their was a way to change it...go for it! but i LOVE being the way i am and their is no use to change it...plus, being bi gives you more options. LOL i wouldn't change my child just because of my being homophobic (as an example) because maybe he/she could have had a better life being gay, than strait. im against it, but to each their own...but not for a parent to decide.
i doubt they ever will isolate a "gay gene" and create a "gay cure." it's obvious that people are born the way they are born for a reason. choosing to change a child's dna pre-birth for the reason of keeping them from being gay would be quite similar to changing a child's dna to keep them from being born mentally retarded, or any other "unacceptable" or "undesirable" character trait. fuck anyone who tries to mess with the way we are, whether gay, developmentally disabled, genius, or whatever. we all come into this world with very specific "instructions" and "codes" on who we are and what we are here to do. and we will keep coming back until we do what we intend to do, so it doesn't really matter, ultimately!
This 3-year-old thread just came to my attention. I haven't read into it much but voted not to do DNA changes like some kinda GATTACA. There may or may not be a definitive gene. Could be the genetics just make you predisposed to straight or gay, but there is wiggle room. That would explain us bi's who screw up all the stats and presumptions about inherent gayness. What if the gay dispostion gene is tied up with the exploring/daring gene. How would you remove it? Is there an infidelity gene? We know that some of the most dynamic men in history kept mistresses. I'm sure someday they may be able to isolate these genes but let's hope they find them so entertwined that they will just keep working with those unfortunate mice.
haha... yeah, totally... and your reference to gattaca just makes me want to go watch it again... great movie btw! why should we all live in a cookie cutter world where everything is neatly packaged up into one or the other, or even worse, one thing... difference and uniqueness are what makes life interesting... if we took all that away, well... we'd have "stepford" on our hands. no one wants that, or if they do... well, they're just shit out of luck.
I think any one who trys to "cure gay guys" should piss off - we are who we are and they should respect that - we don't try to change straight people queer so why us.
