start talking about the things you like, and if someone has the same interests then BAMMO you got yourself a friend! i always start a conversation with something funny or really weird. it draws people in...then start the friend making process.

I'm the same way-honestly, I only have one REALLY good girl friend. However, when I'm at work, I realize that talking about something at work (project I'm doing, project I might know they're doing) and conversations last for hours! I used to work at a manufacturing company and I was in Human Resources, and I was the only one in my department who generally wanted to know what these people wanted to say. I loved going around and congratulating someone for a great accomplishment-they really enjoyed it.

If you know of something they did that deserves a pat on the back-make sure you tell them you think they did a great job.

Another great topic starter, especially at work (other than gossip-which I HATED) is upcoming events or times of year. Like after this holiday weekend, make sure you just randomly ask someone how they're weekend was and what they did. People, especially women, like to know you want to know about them.

Now that I've written a book-HAHA! One more thing-talk about pets. Everyone loves to brag about their pet.
