I saw this at theathers and loved the rodriquez movie with the zombies Tarantino's car flick was ok, but I'm only buying planet terror on dvd when it comes out
I loved Grindhouse. I liked Death Proof more than Planet Terror but they were both awesome. Can't wait for them to come out on dvd.
I'm not really of the opinion of liking one of the films more than the other, as i saw it as the 'double-feature' it was intended as. It actually worked for me on that trashy/low-budget level that I find so suspiciously satisfying. The whole package with the fake trailers and artificially "aged" film really hit the spot I think. I realise the whole concept sounds cheesy and preposterous to most people, but that's what those movies were all about in a way.
Well, they are separate films. The films were released separately in Europe and will be released separately on DVD if I remember correctly. I agree though that it was all about the total package Double feature, fake trailers... I cracked up at the cheesy-ass psychedelic "And now, our feature presentation" sign with the corniest music ever playing behind it... haha... great stuff. I think the Machete trailer might have been my favorite. Tough call though. I am surprised to see that you preferred Death Proof, Ehoney29. Seems to be the minority opinion, but I love Tarantino and it definitely had some great moments I love Kurt Russell, too, he was great in it.
This movie was quite possibly the best cinematic production I have ever seen. Both movies were astounding (though I must say I liked Planet Terror better), and the faux movie trailers were a great bonus. I saw on Wikipedia a few days ago that Machete is being made into a straight to DVD release.
I gotta say I can appreciate what Rodriguez and Quentin's intentions were, but overall i didn't find the movies all that enjoyable. The people in the theater I saw it in would probably give a much worse review. I'd have to say I liked Deathproof better although some of the classic dialogue that Quentin is known for seemed a little forced at times. I'll still see anything he puts out though.
I loved Grindhouse. Werewolf Women of the S.S? Hobo with a Shotgun? Come ON! Let's get this shit MADE!
I thought both were awesome. Rodriguez and Tarantino were going for completely different things with their movies and I can appreciate both. Rodriguez was trying to make his own bad grindhouse movie, while Tarantino was actually trying to make a good one. I think both succeeded. I was laughing my ass off all through Planet Terror, especially during the "love scene" when MISSING REEL came up, and every time they showed Freddy Rodriguez (is that is name?) on the mini bike. Hilarious.
I fucking loved Grindhouse. I thought it was the best movie made in years. I hope you can buy the pair on DVD and not have to buy them seperately. I thought this movie was way overshadowed by 300.
My daughter and I went to see it at the dollar house, which seemed like the perfect venue other than, maybe a drive in. We loved both movies. So much so that we dragged my husband and son back the next night. Too cool! This lead to a sort of cult film fest on DVD at the house. *chuckles*
everyone said that Planet Terror ruled and Deathproof sucked but i preferred Deathproof, it gave me such an adrenaline rush
I just rented Death Proof yesterday and it was great, can't wait for the release of Planet Terror next month "Revenge is a dish best served cold" (a klingon proverb) H
I'm a huge Grindhouse fan. I'm not sure if I'd ever sit through both again in one sitting, but as expected from two such filmmakers, it was genius.
