My boyfriend was fundraising for a charity called Save the Children, and it really opened my eyes. The most sad thing about this issue is that so many people are not even aware of what is going on. This is an abomination to humanity , and if you have not heard of this before, please read on. "I would like to give you a message. Please do your best to tell the world what is happening to us, the children. So that other children don't have to pass through this violence." - A 15-year-old girl who escaped from the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda. In over twenty countries around the world, children are direct participants in war. Denied a childhood and often subjected to horrific violence, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 children are serving as soldiers for both rebel groups and government forces in current armed conflicts. These young combatants participate in all aspects of contemporary warfare. They wield AK-47s and M-16s on the front lines of combat, serve as human mine detectors, participate in suicide missions, carry supplies, and act as spies, messengers or lookouts. Physically vulnerable and easily intimidated, children typically make obedient soldiers. Many are abducted or recruited by force, and often compelled to follow orders under threat of death. Others join armed groups out of desperation. As society breaks down during conflict, leaving children no access to school, driving them from their homes, or separating them from family members, many children perceive armed groups as their best chance for survival. Others seek escape from poverty or join military forces to avenge family members who have been killed. http://web.amnesty.org/pages/childsoldiers-index-eng
Perhaps that is there culture there. Setting and pushing our beliefs as to what is proper for a certain age person is really wrong. Hell even our country continues to change what is right for different age groups. It does seem wrong to me but then Im not involved in thier culture, we really need the history of that country to know if this is un acceptable to those in thier country after all we used to marry off early teen girls to middle aged guys here in the states not that long ago and thought the idea was good. We did not allow women to vote, we allowed beating a woman and a child and so on. We changed due to the belief of our peoples majority that it was wrong, do they have our beliefs?
I think that whenever people are unable to represent themselves, the rest of humanity should come to their aid. Culture is not > human rights.
