Pot and your health.

    I don't smoke much, but I like it every now and then

    So, smoking up all the time isn't the best thing for your health I assume. Many of the pot heads I know couldn't run a mile.

    But casually, I'm starting to wonder if it may have benificial health effects. It acts as a lung exporant.

    The reason I bring this up, is I bought a book by this guy Eddie Bravo on grappling (rubber guard) and he suggests smoking helped improve his jujutsu game.

    And this guy is no slouch. He subbed freaking Royler Gracie.

    So what do you think of the effects of marijuana and your health? The data is kinda conflicting, and I know when I smoked regularly, I wasn't in great shape, but can casual smoking be benificial? Kinda hard to believe.

    i mean its def not good for you if you compare to someone who doesnt smoke, but ive learned that if you can still smoke and run or excersice. The way i see it is, its easier for someone who has maintained a excersice routine and smokes that someone who eats cheese puffs all day and smokes to go run a mile.

    I played football all through highschool and for a year and a half in college and i smoke almost every day and stillwas the fastest distance runner outta all the lineman

    That was my conclusion too. If you smoked a bit and exercised a lot it wouldn't be too big of a hinderance.

    But this guy, (who tapped out a martial arts legend) was arguing that it was benificial. I don't agree with it really, but he made a pretty persuasive argument.

    i smoke everyday but i still made time to workout at least 3 days a week(not anymore but)
    in high school though i was in pretty good shape and maintained a starting position on the soccer team for the 3 years
    and not to brag but i also could outrun most of my teammates with the exception of a couple
    as long as you use it in moderation and still exercise i think its quite possible to be a good athlete
    also id be interested to read this guys thoughts about how it is beneficial

    Um, I've tried googling it to see more about it, and so far all the stuff I've come up with is about jujutsu.

    It's in the book, and if you want, I'll write up what it says tommorow. *bout to head to bed*

    in junior high and senior high i smoked and was still in pretty good shape
    i'm in no shape now to do anything active (from cigs, not weed)
    but i'm sure that smoking every once in awhile couldn't hurt ya

    im in horrible shape, never really have been, exept in like grade 3 wen id run around like a monkey all day. i thought about starting running this summer, but it just never happend, im a lazy asshole with no goals.

    I smoke multiple times a day, and I run 2-3 miles just about every other day. If I smoke right before I run, which is what I do most of the time, I can feel my lungs open up and I dont get winded at all. No bullshit.

    I have also read a lot about swimmers and bodybuilders smoking weed to increase oxygen intake. Its an effective bronchodilator

    Every survey or study the government has done on marijuana has come to the conclusion; occasional use produces no harmful effects on ones health.

    Now, whether or not it actually is beneficial is pretty subjective. Deviate is right, that is IS a bronchiodialator, and thus it may help expel shit from your lungs.

    However, sometimes I would wake and bake before school, and I would go into P.E. first period, and running and shit was such a chore. I suppose that depends more on your mindset and motivation though, because when I'm playin football or rollerhockey with my pals and I'm high it doesn't really slow me down any.

    I wouldn't say that it is beneficial, in any way though. Thats just me. And I smoke it everyday so I guess that kinda defeats the purpose huh?

    Eddie Bravo is awesome.
    I train Jiu Jitsu at a gym in Ft. Worth, run by Travis Lutter

    I've smoked about an hour before I went up there a few times, and I think its is SO much better when I'm high. Except when you're being suffocated by bigger guys (I'm 105 pounds and the only kid up there excluding some bulky 17 year olds)

    I won't go as far as saying I'm BETTER at it when I'm high, but I'm definitely able to determine what the guy I'm "grappling" is about to do because I notice his set-ups really easy.


    But its always a little scary... because alot of cops train up there, and although they couldn't put anything on me just for being stoned, I still get paranoid about it on ocassion

    I haven't really noticed HUGE endurance problems. I tend to lose alot quicker when I'm high, because I just kinda get lazy in the middle of a round and decide I'll just let the guy win

    By health, it can either mean mentally or physically.

    Physically, I believe it don't do shit.

    And on the other hand, it's done a plethora of things for my health. Beware of your third eye :reddevil:

    I smoke every day, and have usually enjoy running the local marathons at least once a year... I've done 6 1/2 marathons over the last few years, and am getting ready for my first full.... (mmmmm, runners high).



    Weed is herb, how can that be unhealthy?

    Sweet. I'm traqining in Denton now. I'm moving to Richardson, to train with Terry Corkran. Both our instructors got trained by Carlos Machado.

    One thing I really agree with Bravo on is the gui. The longer you train with it, the more of an ajustment it will be when dealing without it.

    I've gotten to the point where I train 4 hours a day.

    It binds to fat and slows down your metabolism.

    And how can an herb be unhealthy? How about black nightshade?
