Currently I play (in order of skill) guitar, bass, drums, and piano but I want to try a new instrument thats not as common as those instruments. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Maybe mandolin? It's not too common, but it's common enough to where it's easily accessible.

mandolins are cool, and really easy to play if you're a guitarist or bassist.

Yeah - mandolins are brilliant. The main difference (in my opinion) between the guitar and bass is that the mandolin is tuned in fifths, but in my experience it's suprisingly easy to get used to. (Though I switched the other way around.)

But the, you might want to move away from strings etc. If you just want a bit of easy fun - get a tin whistle. It's dead easy to pick up, and you can mess around on it. :D

I think it's awesome when someone is good at a horn or other brass instrument. I would consider taking one up, but they're kind of loud, making practicing in an apartment not so great.

there is a whole universe of truely unusual and unique instrumtents out there. most play someone like, well, a reed is a reed and a horn is a horn and a plucked or struck string is a plucked or struck string, but ... , the possibilities really are endless, and of course anything that can act as a midi controller ..., though of course i think that's a seperate question, at any rate, one of my favorite websites for that sort of thing (and yes i love therimin too, much more then same old same old electric guitars and snare drums, however much of a show they might be all by themselves) anyway,

    www.oddmusic.com

they have a musium of truely unique and unusual musical instruments, including sound samples. worth a visit.
