so i was at work one day and i saw a box fo 6 7lb cans of refried beans. our manager orderd them by mistake and well somehow i ended up with a can. i have no idea what to make with it and since its 7lb, i dont want to use a little of it then throw out the rest? anyone got any ideas on what to make?
besides the obvious burritos, my favorite thing to make with refried beans is pizza -buy a pizza crust, or make one -put a thick layer of the beans on it -then add salsa instead of pizza sauce -add other veggies (my favorite to add are tomato slices, green peppers, black olives, onions) -add cheese if you like -cook it, and then when its done, top it off with slices of avocado, and dip it in sour cream/plain yogurt if you eat that.
I stir up some salsa into it, some diced white onion, and bake at 350 for an hour. SMOTHER it with extra sharp cheddar, bake for 10 more minutes. It'll make you fart like a Klingon, but its worth it. The rest, you can cram into plastic bags and freeze. x
I've never heard of anyone else liking this, but my favorite refried bean dish is smothered over a baked potato, topped with vegan cheese. Mixing them with quinoa or rice and salsa is also very yummy (and quick too).
mmmm let me come over and i'll help you finish them off. i love refried beans. i mix it with salsa or taco sauce, nuke it and use it as a dip for tortilla chips. hell, have a mexican themed party and make burritos, tacos, dips, etc. have everyone bring something (chips, taco shells, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, etc) you'd go through the whole can pretty quick.
i would make sure it doesn't have lard first. a lot of commercial refried beans have lard as an ingredient...for some reason. i guess taste? i dunno...
lard is for that silky texture that veggie beans usually don't have because an industrial blender is the other way to do it, with vegetable shortening. I'm thinking "donate to food closet," myself.... or a pot luck?
I was thinking... party time! Think of all the yummy dishes you could make, and all the friends you'd have to have over to help you with it love, mom
dam you guys know how to make some awesome dishes!! i think ill try everything. as far as the other cans, our manager donated them to the nearest homeless shelter.
Lard is the traditional recipe. My favorite Mexican restaurant happens to use vegetable shortening. x
the ingredients are cooked beans, water, less than 2% of canola oli. salt. distilled vinegar. chile pepper. onion powder. spices. garlic powder. natural flavor. no lard! YESS
I know this is a little late, but in case you froze some of those refried beans. My favorite refried bean dish is bean quesidillas. I take two tortillas and put refried beans in the middle, you can also put your toppings like cheese, salse in there too, but I like to dip. I just do beans in the middle, throw it on my quesidilla maker (yeah I love quesidillas that much) and when its nice and crispy I take it off. I line up my little sauce bowls with quacamole, tofutti better than sour cream and salsa and dip away. Its YUMMY! Damn, I need to go get some supplies. Another good dish is mixing all the above ingredients minus the tortillas with rice then either eating it right out of the bowl or dipping tortilla chips in it. Mmmmm. Refried beans.
