umm, i advise you to let it grow a little bit more.
I mean, you could just stop brushing it and let if knot as it grows because it will do some knotting as it is right now, but not much.
That's what I would do if I was you: just start the process and let them knot and grow at the same time.

    Good luck my brothaaa lol

I think it only has to be like 3-4 inches to be able to dread, but i think starting a little longer than that would be helpful. From what I can tell your hair seems like it's good to dread now, but just to be safe maybe grow it out a little or if you're going natural let it knot as it grows like the other poster said.

good luck either way, dreads are fun.

i started my dreads at about 4 or 5 inches and they did great...

a friend of mine who has his down past his butt said they are stronger if you start short =)

I didn't even look at the pics but I can tell you that if you just stop combing now eventually you'll have dreads. I know plenty of folks who let their hair go from a shaved head.

Dreads aren't an overnight thing... so even if it was longer you'd have to wait.

no, wash still. not washing is bad. it allows oil build up which keeps the hairs from knotting up and can cause an unpleasant smell. i would just wash once a week with non residue soap. good luck, man

this is what i would do.... stop combing... wash once a week with non-redidue soap (dr. bronners if possible).... and allow hem to stat knotting on there own.... seperate them into sections as they knot.....

If you want to back comb at some point then you are going to need to comb OUT the knots in order to do so properly, so that would be counter-productive. go natural bud. You'll enjoy them sooo much more as they come to be.

    enjoy brahda
