I was reading this book on being a ninja at barnes and nobles one day. Suggested sneaking up on your opponents and punching them in the neck.

He was also wearing a black outfit and mask while sneaking around. I don't really know why, but it looked kinda cool

I had a Japanese friend who was a 1st dan in Genbukan Ninpo Bugei, which is a black belt ninja basically, in high school. He was a really talanted guy, but his english sucked for an exchange student.

 

Think he was a 1st dan anyway, I could be making that up. It was a while ago.

In the movie Hero, Jet Li teaches that the highest ideal for a warrior is to seek to end war.

So, in that sense, being peaceful is the highest level of martial prowess that a martial artist can attain. A warriors role is to preserve peace.
