Ok , I am posting here to get some input on a question that some friends and i have been debating for awhile now. We were wondering why society seems to accept Bi's better than they do Gays ? It honestly appears that bisexuals arent quite as subject to some of the bashing and hate by society that the gays have had to endure , and to me , i dont see that much difference . Any input on the matter would be WONDERFUL !!
I think it's because a one part of society just believes that bi-sexuals are "just curious", while another part believes that they just don't want to admit their gay.
i always thought its because they are still sort of straight in a sense, if you think about it. the only comparison i could think of is someone whos interracial with one black parent and one white one. while many white people will accept them, there will still be the white people who will be racist against them just because they are, indeed, half black.
I think also that alot of bisexuals get written off as "Just trying to get attention",alot of people just assume it's all b*llshit or they are "Just going through a phase".Alot of "Straight?" people have their own issues with homosexuality or have had, this can create bi curios people who would be considered "Straight?",Probably a larger majority of people, more than we think!.People who are in denial or somehow not dealing with it correctly. So when people say they're bi alot of people will secretly have compassion for them because they have gone through alot of the same feelings, they maybe going through it at that time and just not told anyone. For homophobes who will not admit they might be bi-curios bi or gay a person who openly admits they're gay is threatening since it brings up their own feelings of homosexuality also it feels as if their own feelings of homosexuality may become exposed somehow, they would most likely get somewhat paraniod and become angry and frightened feeling cornerd and at that piont they may start to become violent and hurt someone. A bi person does'nt feel as threatinig to a homophobe cause they can make fun of them without anger or fear it's actually more teasing and joking although they can be real nasty to bi's too, usually they don't take it very seriously and write it off. It's considered normal to expiriment with the same sex, even if no-one talks about it.Alot of people do it,It's not as big of a deal. When it can't get written off as a phase or something homophobes secretly think,OMG maybe I'm gay too.and they feel the shame and humiliation of being gay in a society that rejects gays and can be extremely cruel to them still.(Although it's slowly improving )They may have issues around their sexuality that may cause these feelings.Bi's are less threatining cause most people expirement with the same sex sometime in their life, usually in childhood. It's really not threatening to them or there own sexuality,.know what I mean?Do I make sense Feel like I wrote a report,LOL.Really I kinda know alot or @ least what I had gone through before I admitted to myself I'm Bi maybe Gay,Have'nt told many people lets see,uh 1 only I think yea 1,a very safe person who by circumstance is very detached. No problem there LOL,.. Today I had my not quite girlfriend over and my media player began to display and play some gay porn I have, must've hit the wrong button or something who knows?LOL,She did'nt say anything.I don't know if she noticed,of course it was'nt there for long.I had worried about something like that happening, her finding my porn, but I did'nt hide it I sorta wanted her to see it so I would'nt have to say anything.I wanto but I'm a wimp.I sorta figured well if she were to see I'd just deal with it and deal with her reaction.I'm beginning to want to come out to more people but I really don't want to deal with any put downs or nasty crap from any ignorant idiots or homophbes. It's a slow process for me.Anyway,I hope that helps Joey*
I dont think its that society accepts bi's more, I think its that society doesnt belive bi's exsist. So many people seem to think that bisexual people are just confused, or curious, yet I cant seem to explain to them that I find guys and girls equaly attractive, and gender makes no difference to me... People just seem to belive that me being bisexual is just a step towards me comming out as gay, which they dont understand that gay and bi are completly different things

Yea, Bisexuality has'nt really been accepted as an orientation much yet,not like gay or straight. Most people don't believe in Bi's.To most people you're either gay or straight.I think everyone's somewhat bi to a smaller or larger degree. Yea,Feather-boas,I've wanted to mention it to her many times since then, she's a little butchy like and I'm wondering lol,it would be nice sometimes just to get it out in the open. Not gonna make a big deal out of it anyways though. It's not a big deal with me. Joey*
i feel as though because one is technically half or part heterosexual, homophobes in particular would think that they wouldn't need to act on the other part of their sexuality at all and that there is also a belief that bi-sexuals are (as it has been said) "confused", "curious", or "mentally afflicted". I am a bi-sexual by the way, these are just opinions i have herd from a number of people in passive conversations.
I had a friend just the other day say that Bi seemed to be like a trend now.....calling ones self Bi was almost like a fashion statement nowadays....even people that really werent were CALLING themsleves Bi...as if to be in with a certain crowd..... ?????????????????????????????.....i was like...WTF ??
well as a matter of fact some heterosexuals are pretending to be bi-sexual simply because it makes them look slightly cooler, more interesting, conflicted, complicated, sexually experienced etc. i personally am genuinely bi-sexual but think it's understandable how there are straight people out there who want the attention because let's just face it, bi-sexuals, homosexuals and transgender or gender confused people can be more interesting to talk to...
We are diffenetely more intresting.and alot cooler too! It seems that way to me, lol Yea,it's NOT a fashion statement that annoys me. What can you do though J* o E Y*
Huh... maybe I should call myself gay so nobody passes me off as a poser? Btw, when you say homophobes... It's not that they're afraid of homosexuals, it's that they think homosexuality is evil. "Homophobe" just sounds like a mean name to call them. Even if they might deserve it =/ About bisexuals. A lot of people just don't know about bisexuals, rather than pretending they don't exist. I considered myself gay for a long time until I heard about bi's. And about why people are more accepting of them, well, bi's have a choice to be with the opposite sex. I suppose that makes people more comfortable with it.
I agree with this to a certain extent. Many people who I know claim to be bisexual because they want to be open to all types of love. Which I don''t find to be a bad thing. However, I think sexuality runs deeper than wanting to be a certain preference. It's sometimes frustrating for me. This isn't to say that there aren't genuine bisexuals out there though.
This is pretty interesting. I guess that maybe it's based on the fact that bisexuals are still partially hetero if that makes sense? I think some gay people tend to feel somewhat hostile toward bisexuals because they see bisexuality as far less of an issue as homosexuality. I mean, someone who is bi has the choice to live a completely heterosexual life, so what's so bad? I guess that's the argument from that point of view...it still doesn't really explain why people are more accepting of bisexual though...
