What's the price difference. Seems a motel cost more. But if you stay for months at a time, they give you discounts usually, not to mention in that price you run all the ac/heat, lights, water, and cable you want, and at some you even got free internet.
Motels where you can actually live are usually really sleezy and dirty. I used to work at a YMCA that operated in the same way as a motel, and it was absolutely decrepit. Flop houses are completely unromantic and only somewhere you want to live if you have no other options. Seriously, if it is warm out, sleep under a bridge or something, because it is free and you won't have to worry about some fiend stealing your shoes. Where I worked, there was a monthly rate that was a little over $300 a month. Only a single room with a bed, sheets, and a towel were provided. The bathrooms were communal, shared by 35 people on each floor, and usually overflowing with shit and piss while the building was not air conditioned and hot as hell during the summer. I'm sure there are nicer places, but it's usually a better bargain to just get an apartment even if you have to have a roommate or two. I live with my girlfriend and we each pay $335/month for a one bedroom in one of the neighborhoods in my city that is considered expensive; it would cost around the same for me to live where I worked, which was in the neighborhood with the highest violent crime rate.
Alright heres my reason for a motel. The motel I'm looking at in the city Im moving back to is very convienient. On the main drag. Main reason I want this is they have a monthly special which is $500. a month with all the air/water/internet etc. you want not to mention that includes your breakfast buffet everymorning after you smoke all night. The main reason is because an apartment = report social security numbers which I don't need. Hotels dont report that kind of thing, much less need that. (Trying to keep the income on a low profile) Apartment=not so convienient $300. month + your bills and furniture. So it comes up to about the same price a month and you buy your furniture which ='s out because you have your "own" furniture. The main differences I see in the two is one will keep me safe from irs, and I can always be on the move, while the other doesn't, and the hotel I can use all the air/water I want, and eat all I want in the mornings before a long day.
And the motel isn't that dirty honestly. It's in a very very clean city. I'm talking about a very clean city. Mow your lawns or the city does it for you and you get a huge fine. Powerwash your buildings and drives or the city charges you to do it etc. Motel doesnt look all that bad, not to mention its 30 ft from mc d's and sits on the main drag everyone cruises on the weekend.
Sounds like you know what to do then I'd just get the Motel for a few months, maybe find an apartment you can just pay cash as a down payment and they don't ask questions?
I'm just worried if I get an "apartment" at the hotel and have a few to many buddies over I'm in trouble. Who knows. It would be harder for the laws to track me down with me in a motel anyway.
Alan Partridge springs to mind. For those of you who dont know who he is its a Brithish comedy about a failing TV presenter. He lives in a shity motel or as he calls it "a travell tavern". Very, very., very funny and well worth a watch. To answer your question, live in an appartment you gypo.
^ what's the point of buying a house? So you have a residence after 50 years when its paid off and you don't even need one? So you have something to show for your money? Renting doesn't tie you down, you are very mobile. Renting allows change of pace, and is most of the time cheap as hell. It's all what you're looking for. If I were you I would live in motels, Apartments sometimes have EXTENSIVE background checks and if you are avoiding the popo you definately don't need that shit. Let us know how this works out for ya.
Hey thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to stay in the motel for a while. No background check. $500. a month for all the air/breakfast/internet/etc I want. Then I can always be on the move if I need to get out quick. Just trying to stay low with spending cash if you know what I'm saying.
fuck a house.. get a trailer.. like a trailer park trailer.. yea.. what the fuck ever hold the trailer park shit to yourself.. because if you want a "house".. you can buy great ones for like $25,000.. and they are MOBILE.. as long as its not all rusted out underneath... you can get a good trailer for 7-10K.. then ya pay anywhere from $50+/mo for lot rent.. i dunno how it is in the rest of the us.. but minnesota the most i've seen was like $200+
nah man, if your really looking to stay low, get a camper, and live in rest area's and walmart parking lots, theres all the showers at some rest stops, and you can just drive away. but be sure to keep moving every 2 or so nights, or they get suspiscious.
Real estate is the best investment and renting is the worst investment. Im surprised none of you guys know that. When you buy a house you can increase your credit too so Im not sure why none of you guys are in favor of buying a house... I would buy a trailer like joker man but I have a little better taste lol jp but 4 real.
